6 Drinks to Try This Weekend, and Take You Through the Year
Duane Fernandez is a 7-year industry veteran who competed on the second season of NBC’s On the Rocks: The Search For America’s Next Top Bartender. Currently the head bartender at NYC’s Donatella and D Bar, his drinks have been featured in GQ and the New York Times.
His under the radar liquor favorite: Solerno Blood Orange Liqueur – “It’s like candy. Great for those fruity, sweet cocktails that people love.”
A drink to take anyone through 2011: “I have so many, but below are my two favorites!”
Prohibidor Fumar
- 3 oz of Flor De Caña Rum
- 1/2 oz Maple syrup
- 1 dash of liquid smoke
- Half salted \ sugar rim
- Garnished with a lemon twist
Summer Moscow Mule
- Muddled peaches, ginger and basil
- 1 1/2 oz. Russian Standard vodka
- 1/2 oz. fresh lime juice
- 1/2 oz. simple syrup
- Shake and strain into a highball glass
- Top with Ginger Beer
- Garnish with a sliced peach and basil leaf
