In case you missed it, we’re pretty big fans of the colorful little French cookies called macarons. And it’s well established that when it comes to macarons, Pierre Hermé is a modern master.
How amazing would it be if he decided to give away free macarons? Well, last month lots of people stood in lines wrapped around the block to find out. For the 5th year, Hermé offered up his full range of macarons for free, in exchange for a parting donation to benefit two charities. The generosity brought in over €7000 (roughly $9300 at today’s exchange rate) for Alliance Maladies Rare and Autours des Williams. Both charities support research into rare diseases.
New York City has cracked down on sagging pants popular with teenage boys and young men. Brooklyn politician Eric Adams has recently launched a 6-billboard campaign demanding “Stop the Sag”.
The public message from the fashion police is part of a growing push against the butt-baring fad.
While we agree that sagging pants may be an eyesore, if Ed Hardy and Crocs can escape campaigns against what many argue is unattractive style, is it fair that sagging pants get attacked?
Tell us what you think? Ban the sag? Or freedom of expression?
Over the last few months we have seen major fluctuations in the fashion retail market, with many labels finding the tough economic times too much to handle, forcing the ones who’ve been able to survive to lower prices or offer more mass market merchandise. Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen’s line, Elizabeth and James is rising […]
Malcolm McLaren, former manager of the Sex Pistols and ex-partner of iconic British designer Vivienne Westwood, has died. McLaren and then girlfriend, Vivienne Westwood, opened a London clothing shop called Let It Rock in 1971. The shop underwent various name changes (Sex, Too Fast To Live Too Young To Die, Seditionaries) to reflect the changing clothing styles sold, but became the window to Westwood’s outrageous designs that grabbed hold of the emerging punk aesthetic.
Athletes branching out in to fashion – particularly with apparel lines, is nothing new. Fashion brands branching out into sports marketing though, is something you don’t see everyday.
If you’re a Yankees fan, then you may not catch their next sponsor every day, but you will see them during every game.
DKNY will become the first fashion brand to have a permanent presence at Yankee via a permanent outfield bullpen sign in right centerfield and a DKNY Lounge near 3rd base where high-def televisions will include DKNY branded footage on rotation.
If you weren’t using your pillow to sleep outside an Apple store last weekend, perhaps you were putting it to better use as part of International Pillow Fight Day. From Accra to Zurich, the feathers flew as people young and old battled it out in parks and gathering places around the world.
Started in 2008, the global opportunity to goof off is part of an “urban playground movement” that aims to get people out from in front of the television, and out into the streets having fun. Let’s hope it catches on as a way to settle differences, because we’ve never seen more people look so happy to be in a fight.
May 28th can’t come soon enough as movie-goers anticipate the sequel to Sex and the City. The buzz over the girls’ return is sparking some New York hotels and hotspots to profit off the film’s success.
