Unlike online influence, red carpet influence is one of those things that’s difficult to measure. Supermarket tabloids and gossip columnists usually play it safe and give best dressed to stars who go with a cookie cutter gown, while worst dressed goes to anyone who takes a fashion risk. Fashion blogs normally go the other way, praising those who aren’t afraid to look more runway than red carpet, and applying a snooze label to those who play it too safe.

We haven’t found a measurable way to tally best and worst dressed just yet, so we’ll just just round up the larger trends and add our favorites to the mix. Click on images to view at a larger size.

Save: Julianne Moore in Lanvin, Julianna Margulies in vintage Yves Saint Laurent

Skip: January Jones in Versace

Don’t get us wrong, January Jones looks great and men probably got a lot more interested in the red carpet after seeing that dress; but the line between vamp and tramp is thin and we’re not sure how many women would be able to toe the line in this dress or any “inspired by” designs.

What They All Wore

1st row L to R: Julianne Moore (large image) in Lanvin, Claire Danes in Calvin Klein, Megan Fox in Armani Prive, Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta, Heidi Klum in Marc Jacobs

2nd row L to R: Naya Rivera, Natalie Portman in Viktor & Rolf, Emma Stone in Calvin Klein, January Jones (large image) in Versace

3rd row L to R: Â Julianna Margulies in vintage Yves Saint Laurent, Christina Hendricks, Edie Falco in Valentino, Sofia Vergara in Vera Wang

Save: Amber Riley, Anne Hathaway in Armani Prive

Skip: Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace

Green is a good color for Jolie, and it’s great to see her in color period. What’s not great? The weird underarm/above the waist draping does nothing for what’s still an enviable figure. We know she’s mom to many, but the long sleeves, what looks like an elastic waist and all over sequins make this look matronly. If mom jeans had a red carpet equivalent, we’re guessing it would be sort of like this dress. How to do long sleeves and all over sequins right? See: Anne Hathaway.

What They All Wore

1st row L to R: Amber Riley in Oliver Tolentino, Olivia Wilde (top middle) in Marchesa, Carrie Underwood (bottom middle) in Badgley Mischka, Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace

2nd row L to R: Heather Morris, Shaun Robinson in Oday Shakar, Anne Hathaway in Armani Prive

Save: Tilda Swinton in Jil Sander, Eva Longoria in Zac Posen, Jennifer Lawrence in Louis Vuitton

Skip:  Halle Berry, Kelly Osbourne in Zac Posen, Diane Warren

Remember what we said about January Jones and the whole she pulls it off, but most people can’t thing? Apply that to Halle Berry.

We’re not sure how many of you watch the Fashion Show (if you don’t, you should, if only for Calvin Tran). If you don’t, a brief aside. Designers have a limited amount of time in which to construct a look and put on a fashion show. On one episode, the designers had to make dresses for cast members of the Real Housewives of Orange County and New Jersey. One of the Housewives of O.C. wore Spanx to her fitting which threw the dress measurements off. When she tried on the dress sans Spanx, it burst the seams leaving a huge hold that the designer had to fix by adding a strip of fabric. The end result was a vagina looking gathering on the side of the dress that got the designer sent home. The point of that brief recap is we’re guessing that’s what happened to Kelly Osbourne’s dress.

Then, there’s songwriter Diane Warren. We like menswear, but part of what we like about it is that it has a reputation for being well tailored. We like black and white because there’s no other combination that can look as crisp and pulled together. Somehow, Warren manages to take everything we like about those things and throw them out. The sloppy shirt, baggy pants and oversized jacket could all have been so chic if they were just a size or two smaller and better fitted.

What They All Wore

1st row: Jennifer Lawrence in Louis Vuitton, Jennifer Love Hewitt in Romona Keveza, Halle Berry

2nd row: Hailee Steinfeld in Prabal Gurung, Kelly Osbourne in Zac Posen

3rd row: Annette Benning, Kaley Cuoco in Catherine Kidd, Christina Aguilera, Piper Perabo in Oscar de la Renta, Eva Longoria in Zac Posen

4th row: Diane Warren, Rita Wilson, Vanessa Williams, Jane Fonda in Georges Hobeika

5th row: Dianna Agron in J Mendel, Julia Stiles, Nicole Kidman in Prada, Jane Lynch

6th row: Melissa Leo in Marc Bouwer, Jessalyn Gilsig, Jemma Mays, Jennifer Lopez, Julianne Hough in Marchesa
