We liked the design of the new OS, and are fans of the social networking integration, but it seems that&#8217;s not enough to entice others to buy the Torch.  Now, a few days after the launch some unconfirmed numbers from the launch are emerging.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 238px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Blackberry Torch\" src=\"http:\/\/198.46.88.49\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/blackberry-torch.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"228\" height=\"363\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Is the Blackberry Torch already going up in flames?<\/p><\/div>\n<p>According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, the BlackBerry Torch only managed to sell 150,000 units at launch {<a href=\"http:\/\/www.electronista.com\/articles\/10\/08\/16\/analysts.say.blackberry.torch.debut.underwhelming\/\">Electronista<\/a>}. \u00c2\u00a0That may seem like a large number, but in terms of handset sales, it&#8217;s relatively nothing.\u00c2\u00a0 Most Android phones in recent memory have been selling out on day one, and the iPhone 4 sold a million on the first day. \u00c2\u00a0All of those phones had issues with inventory, with phones being sold out for quite some time (sometimes sold out just from pre-orders). \u00c2\u00a0The Torch, on the other hand, has no supply issues, unless stores have more stock of the phone than they planned to have, in which case it could be a bigger problem for RIM.<\/p>\n<p>Along with the unconfirmed sales numbers, there&#8217;s another sign that the Torch isn&#8217;t doing as well as expected. \u00c2\u00a0Amazon.com has lowered the price of the phone already. \u00c2\u00a0Just five days after the phone went on sale for $199.99, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B003Y8XBRY?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=signature9-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B003Y8XBRY\">Amazon is selling it for $99.99<\/a> with a two-year contract {<a href=\"http:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2010\/08\/17\/blackberry-torch-just-99-99-on-contact-by-way-of-amazons-gene\/\">Engadget<\/a>}. \u00c2\u00a0It brings the Torch more in line with the mid-range Android phones that have similar (or sometime even better) hardware specs, and a larger app ecosystem. \u00c2\u00a0So if you wanted a Torch, now is a great time to pick one up.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It was just a few days ago RIM launched the BlackBerry Torch, the fist BlackBerry to run the new BlackBerry 6 OS.
