There’s a lot I find unfair about their policies. The flight itself is fine, but their are so many hidden traps in the “specials” that you start to feel like it’s not worth it. Again, if everything goes as planned, the experience will probably be fine. If you need to change anything, for any reason, you quickly find out that OpenSkies isn’t like other airlines and not in a good way. While it’s only domestic, when I compare my OpenSkies experience to the one I had on JetBlue, I feel like it is possible to give decent prices, with flyer friendly prices, but it’s something that OpenSkies hasn’t quite gotten yet. A single promotional effort won’t change that.

Nope, booked well before. Still, it was a slap in the face to see this type of campaign when I’d been pleading for weeks for a refund on a ticket that I never should have had to buy at full price. Just going by their printed terms/policies I should have at least been given the opportunity to use my previously purchased ticket towards the cost of a new one, minus a change fee and whatever the difference in price.

Also, I should add that I finally received a partial refund) but it took several weeks and several emails.

If not, they will most likely not honor your refund request…

I have a followup coming, but in short, they do try to make up for their restrictive and poor policies, but it would be better to not have the poor policies in place at all, then to try to constantly play cleanup. Their “no standby” policy cost me $1600 – even though according to their own rules I should have at least been able to pay only for the change fee and difference in fare (approximately $800).

While the in flight service is fine, I agree that their overly restrictive and completely unsympathetic policies will be what leaves people with a bad taste in their mouths. when I compare my Openskies experience to the one I had with JetBlue, I’m reminded that reasonable fares and reasonable customer policies are possible. OpenSkies has yet to get it right.

For what it’s worth, my normal airline is Continental, and I once made a mistake in dates when booking a flight. They told me there was a grace period of a few days to change tickets without penalty and I quickly had a ticket for the right day after briefly speaking to someone on the phone. I’ve been through the pain of trying to get hold of an actual person who could do something for you (and this is while I’m standing at the airport, mind you) so I feel your pain and wish you good luck in making something happen. Please feel free to use the contact form if you’d like the email for the CEO and management team of OpenSkies so you can be sure that everyone from the top down knows how you feel.
