Gabrielle Giffords Receives a Small Donation With a Lot of Heart

You always hear that it’s the little things that count. Sometimes it really does take a pretty big gesture to help someone out, but from time to time there is something to be said for the little things.

When Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was shot, 9-year-old Isaac Saldana decided to raise money for her by selling his toys and a bracelet his father, a Marine, gave him after one of his deployments. {Huffington Post via Gawker}

That brought in $2.85 (quick! someone get this boy an eBay account), which Saldana put it into a Get Well card that he sent to Giffords. He was in a bit of trouble for selling his toys at school, but teachers overlooked it when they learned of the reason behind the impromptu toy sale.

Giffords’ husband thought it was Saldana’s lunch money, and says that they’ll “get him his lunch money back,” but Saldana has no plans to accept it.

“I don’t really want it back,” he said. “I think she needs it.”

She may not, but we always need people with Isaac’s sentiment.
