Googling isn’t researching. We’re on our second generation of students who can only Google things-and if Google hasn’t indexed/searched it, then it must not exist. Pretty sad really.

@fact check r us — great find! I have not seen this reference before and it makes sense. The movie is old enough and was big enough that Roger would remember it. Were it not for the “Dr.” instead of “Mr.” Lyle Evans, I would be convinced. Besides, I don’t like believing the “red herring” theory.

It was a reference to a Clark Gable movie about advertising from 1947. One of the clients was a man named Dr. Lyle Evans: here is a clip

True, but a pioneering Canadian librarian doesn’t seem to really fit with Roger going on a rant about World War 2 or the Japanese.

Perhaps, this is a fictional person who we’ll hear more about in future episodes, but for now I’ll go with brilliant marketing ploy.
