In reply to Red Lami. The biggest flag (yellow flag maybe? red seems strong) in the story for me was the picture hanging and clothes wearing, in addition to the emails which would later seem spiteful. Other than something personal against the renter, the only thing that seems logical is that the person was on drugs or mentally unstable (in addition to being criminal). Otherwise, it really just doesn't fit with the idea of a criminal deciding to prey on unsuspecting vacation renters. -YM

I agree that the reporting on the original story is really sloppy, making me wonder if maybe it’s all just a scam, or future urban legend. Where is the statement from the SFPD? Why hasn’t EJ been heard from since the original posts? Things on the web are seldom what they seem, and it doesn’t help when bloggers don’t bother asking questions.

apparently the police have a suspect in custody. perhaps we will find out who that is and why he/she did what they did.
