iPhone 4 Case Program Launches via App, Is a Fall Design Fix on the Way? [PHOTOS]

Okay Steve, we know there’s an app for everything, but wouldn’t an old fashioned receipt really suffice for getting iPhone 4 users set up with a free case or refund? Apparently not.

If you own an iPhone 4, and you don’t want to take special phone holding classes to prevent the “Death Grip” problem from occurring, you can now download an app that will allow you to select a bumper case after you’ve signed in. If you purchased your phone before July 23rd, you’ll have to apply for the free case no later than August 22nd. Anyone purchasing after that gets until September 30th.  {Apple}

Might the September 30th cut-off date suggest that cases will be included by default with models sold after then, or better – that a design modification is coming that would prevent needing a case for uninterrupted reception to start with?

A design modification would sort of admit that it was a hardware problem all along, but something as simple as a thin plastic strip along the touch points that cause interference with the antenna could reduce the need for cases in the first place – as well as any future problems or complaints, which would likely bring down associated costs.

But enough with the speculation – what type of cases will users be getting? It looks like there’s actually a good variety with cases from Belkin, Incase, Griffin and Speck if the Apple Bumper isn’t your style. Colors available through the program may be limited, but click through to see photos of the iPhone 4 Belkin Shield Micra Case, Incase Snap Case, Griffin Reveal Etch Case, Griffin Motif Case, Speck Fitted Case, and the Speck Pixel Skin HD Case, which are all part of the iPhone 4 case program.
