I’m not sure it’s fair to say the battery is such a dealbreaker for the Android phones. Of course, if you run on 3G or 4G, the battery isn’t going to last long, but that’s with the iPhone as well. If you play a lot of games on your phone, or keep 3G service on constantly, I think it’s a given that your battery won’t last as long. Of course, if you’re going to have a 3G phone, what’s the point of not using 3G and some of the other features, but that’s not an Android exclusive problem.

And it’s not just with AT&T, but in different countries (UK, France), friends I’ve talked to have all had more problems when 3G was turned on with their iPhones than without.

If battery life is someone’s main priority, honestly no smartphone is worth looking at. I have a ridiculously old Nokia that couldn’t compete with any of these phones, but it holds a charge for 3-5 days, reception on it is great , and a change of the SIM card makes it ready to go in nearly any country.

But feature for feature, the EVO is a solid competitor. Is the feature list kind based on best case scenarios? Sure, but all other smartphones are as well.

the Real world killer feature that actual end users look for is Batterylife, second, Batterylife, Third Batterylife….

in real world tests, The Evo (and all android phones), suffer from horrific battery life, because of poor Wifi lower standard, because of a battery hog processor, because of flash, and because of 4G in Evo’s case) the iPhone 4 has a Real 10 hour WiFi use time, and 7 hour talk time, and 300 hour standby time.

the next Real world killer feature that actual end users look for is Speed, second Speed, third Speed…

in real world tests, the A4 chip in the iPhone 4 is 30% faster than the Evo, the Wifi in the iPhone 4 is the better, faster, uses less battery… where the Evo, (and most Android phones) uses the older, slower, battery hog WiFI… the iOS opens apps far faster, and just loading a video on an Evo is painfully slow… The Evo’s 4G is touted as having 10gb speeds, in real world tests this came in to be 2gb’s barely any better than 3g speeds… worse 99% of people will leave 4G off because it drains your battery within 1 hr if actually using it… and 2.5 hours if not using it… and even though 99% of the people will turn it off, Sprint charges you an extra $10 for the “feature”, making it more expensive overall than the iPhone 4, even though the iPhone 4 has better tech in the WiFi, Screen, Accelerometer, and a dozen other features.

the next Real world killer feature that actual end users look for is Capacity, second Capacity, third Capacity…

the Evo ships with 9gbs of Capacity, the iPhone 4 ships standard with 16gb … FOR THE SAME PRICE…. even the 32gb iPhone is cheaper than the EVO if you upgrade the Evo. and although people are talking about the 512 of ram, this is not the same on the iPhone, the iPhone just uses this as a communication superhighway between the processor and the actual memory of 16gb, so the apps can actually use the 16gb of memory, the EVO apps are far and away limited to much MUCH smaller memory foot prints.

the fourth Real world killer feature that actual end users look for is is number of useful apps… and far and away, the iPHone 4 has 10 times more useful apps… (because of fragmentation, Android phones can only use a fraction of the much smaller numbers of existing apps for any single phone)

and that is before we get to the other really really cool features of screen resolution, and accelerometers, and camera sensors, and actual usable video conferencing….

we will have to wait for the 4th gen of Android phones and further fragmentation to even begin to compare features to the iPhone….
