This rock & roll band leader themed collection from Jeremy Scott for Adidas is cool, sporty and reminiscent of Adidas most classic pieces. Following a lineup with Adidas designing footwear, Scott has broadened into women’s and menswear by putting a trendy and edgy spin on the Adidas hoodies and jerseys we all know and love. Speaking of love, we’re in it with the embroidered jacket on the bottom left with the serious epaulet action.

While they don’t always get the same level of fanfare as designer + fast fashion collaborations (think H&M or Target plus one of the gazillion designers they’ve worked with), designer athletic wear collections may be the new must have collaboration for designers.

Adidas seems poised to dominate the space. The Adidas Stella McCartney partnership is entering its 5th year; Y-3, the collection designed by Yohji Yamamoto may not be as daring as his runway pieces, but likely offers some financial stability while going through a much publicized bankruptcy. In short, designers get to continue being as creative or directional as they’d like on runways, while having more realistic (in terms of wearability and price) collections that pay the bills.

Here’s The Kick-Off: Y-3 Sport Luxury http://198.46.88.49/style/bags/heres-the-kick-off-y-3-sport-luxur http://198.46.88.49/style/bags/heres-the-kick-off-y-3-sport-luxur#respond Wed, 11 Nov 2009 19:32:36 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=5758

Our lucky fellows across the pond will be able to partake in the recent UK launch of the Y-3 Sport Luxury line of athletic-inspired accessories.

We love the modern elegance of the pieces (our favorite is the black cracked leather satchel, above), which combine the extravagance and classic comfort of fine leather and wool with a pared-down aesthetic that screams neither “too fussy” nor “too sporty.”

Sport Luxury will be available at Y-3 flagship stores, Selfridges, and various smaller stores throughout the UK.

If Everyone Jumped: Holey Haute http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/if-everyone-jumped-holey-haute http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/if-everyone-jumped-holey-haute#respond Tue, 20 Oct 2009 04:27:45 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=3360 From Rodarte to Yamamoto, Spring saw head-to-toe holes, tatters, dishevelment and dirt (or is that gold dust?). The sort of glam grunge, with glitter amid the grime (the “shrapnel holes” in Balmain’s tops were healed with gilded patches) may seem like simple styling, or is it more Swamp Thing? These looks wouldn’t be completely out of place in a Halloween ensemble, but come spring will you be treating yourself to a similar look?

Yohji Yamamoto Inc. Declares Bankruptcy http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/yohji-yamamoto-inc-declares-bankruptcy http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/yohji-yamamoto-inc-declares-bankruptcy#respond Mon, 12 Oct 2009 10:37:09 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=2381
The worst of the global financial crisis may be over, but numerous companies are still feeling the negative effects of the sour economy months after the initial impact.  This Friday, Yohji Yamamoto Inc. declared that, in response to both the global market problems and the strength of the Japanese yen versus the dollar, the company has filed for bankruptcy.  Luckily the house will resume normal operations, a possible investor has come out of the woodwork, and Yamamoto will retain creative control – although we noticed he held back this season, showing something much more commercial (and thus more financially safe) than we expected.
