Women’s Shoes – Signature9 http://198.46.88.49 Lifestyle Intelligence Wed, 02 Feb 2011 20:19:05 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.3.4 The Invisible Shoe: If Everyone Jumped http://198.46.88.49/style/shoes/the-invisible-shoe-if-everyone-jumped http://198.46.88.49/style/shoes/the-invisible-shoe-if-everyone-jumped#comments Wed, 02 Feb 2011 20:19:05 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=18208 Nudes and blushes have been a huge trend of late, and we recently discovered, floating around the blogosphere, a photo of a shoe that takes the naked look one step further. You’ve heard of mirrored sunglasses, right? Sao Paulo designer Andreia Chaves apparently designed shoes that are covered with mirrors – called “The Invisible Shoe” – so they blend in with their surroundings. {Jezebel}

Comfortable? Probably not. But ladies, these shoes go with EVERYTHING.

To be fair, one would not actually look naked in this shoe. Rather, one would look as if their feet had entirely disappeared. We absolutely love it, but we do have a few concerns. For one thing, how do the mirrors on these shoes not break when you walk on hard pavement in them? The floating on air look is beyond cool, but shattered glass? Not so much. Plus, these shoes could be too blinding in very bright sunlight. We were also bummed to learn that these shoes have been around for a while, and Chaves’ final collection was planned for February 2010.

Still, word about the “The Invisible Shoe” has been slowly making its way around the Internet, and it isn’t the only funky footwear Chaves came up with in her time. She also created a high heel made with leather and sycamore wood cubes, called the “Form & Texture” shoe, in addition to shoes made with large straps of Velcro. {Yatzer} Both designs look like something Lady Gaga would wear, and we have to appreciate Chaves’ unique vision, but both also look like they’d be quite difficult to actually walk in.

“The Invisible Shoe” seems like the best of concepts related to sci-fi and pale color palettes combined, but do you think anyone wearing them on the streets would look cool or just strange? We’re undecided.

High-Heeled Nikes: If Everyone Jumped http://198.46.88.49/style/shoes/high-heeled-nikes-if-everyone-jumped http://198.46.88.49/style/shoes/high-heeled-nikes-if-everyone-jumped#respond Fri, 14 Jan 2011 13:57:59 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=17818 Just when we thought Teva Stilettos were the craziest footwear we’d ever seen, we find high-heeled Nike Dunks and Air Jordans floating around the Internet. Glamour tweeted about them this week, and they are available for purchase here, but Highsnobette doubts they were put on the market by Nike. If they’re correct, we could be hearing about a trademark infringement lawsuit sometime soon, since the shoes have the Nike swoosh, Air Jordan logo and plenty of other Nike branding on them.

There is no way we would ever consider wearing a Teva Stiletto, but you want to know something? Even though they’re probably a counterfeiter’s concept product for now, these 4-inch tall Nike Dunks are pretty darn cool. Especially the purple ones. And the red ones. Plus, all of the styles sell for around $100, which isn’t too terrible for a Nike or a high heel. While we don’t support fakes, a lot of the styles are sold out which means someone’s buying. Something to take note of for the next sneaker collaboration.

Would you dare wear?

Teva Stilettos: If Everyone Jumped http://198.46.88.49/style/shoes/teva-stilettos-if-everyone-jumped http://198.46.88.49/style/shoes/teva-stilettos-if-everyone-jumped#respond Tue, 30 Nov 2010 22:47:01 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=17045 The latest WTF product on the market is going to take you back quite a few years, and not in a thank-goodness-ballet-flats-are-in-again kind of way. Anyone remember Teva sandals? (Read: Are you trying not to remember owning Teva sandals?)

It was announced this week that Teva has partnered with Grey Ant, a New York City-based designer known for tongue-in-cheek interpretations of old trends, to create Teva high heels. They come in “Natural,” which is tan and has a buckle closure, and “Worlds Unite,” a black and white mash-up with – you guessed it – a Velcro closure. They go for $330. {the gloss, New High (M)art}

You can order the shoes by phone at 323-638-0271. {Daily Candy} They are also available online at New High (M)art, whose product page for these babies says New High (M)art is “proud” to exclusively present Teva Stilettos and includes the following copy:

It’s the classic “Hurricane” style sport mandal re-imagined as a STILETTO. This co-branded effort sees the Teva velcro-strap styling and grip-sole construction on a 4″ stacked heel. They’re calling it the most comfortable, performance high heel on the planet — we call it the most daring mash-up of the decade. This is anti-fashion at its purest. And so good when paired with socks.

A note at the bottom of the page adds, “*Not recommended for actual hiking, gardening, mountain climbing, or Phish concerts :).”

For once, we’re speechless. Especially because these things cost more than $300. The Teva Stiletto’s availability on New High (M)art seems to be as tongue-in-cheek as the shoe’s actual creation, but the high heels do legitimately exist and are for sale online, nonetheless. And we have a feeling there are people out there crazy enough or determined enough to be anti-fashion that they will purchase them. Here’s the only silver lining to this situation: New High (M)art has limited quantities available. (Phew!)

Dear Jimmy Choo, We Never Saw it Coming: Your Affair With Ugg Has Broken Our Heart http://198.46.88.49/style/shoes/dear-jimmy-choo-we-never-saw-it-coming-your-affair-with-ugg-has-broken-our-heart http://198.46.88.49/style/shoes/dear-jimmy-choo-we-never-saw-it-coming-your-affair-with-ugg-has-broken-our-heart#respond Thu, 23 Sep 2010 15:00:32 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=16036 Dearest Jimmy Choo,

We have had quite a love affair for years now, darling. Your commitment to creating only the highest quality shoes at equally high prices has brought on the admiration and worship you so deserve as one of the most iconic shoemakers in the world.

But, dear Jimmy, we must say it’s time to go our separate ways. It’s not us. It’s you.

It seems you’ve been caught dabbling with the annoying, wannabe-shoe-idol mistress of footwear. Ugg Australia.

Love the look... from the ankles up

No offense, Jim, but Uggs are, well, Ugg-ly. And kind of tacky. Talk about a way to ruin any outfit with the Ugg boot’s shapeless, bulky form. We don’t care how warm and fuzzy your new little gold-digging tartlet makes you feel.

You see, when you team up with the Ugg brand to create a limited edition collection of studded, fringed and animal print Jimmy Choo Ugg boots (which, BTW, one could make oneself with a BeDazzler), we just lose a lot of respect for such a prestigious shoemaker as yourself.

Our love affair will effectively end Oct. 21, when the Ugg and Jimmy Choo boots hit Jimmy Choo and Ugg Stores in addition to a selection of other shops. {Fashion United} We weren’t  speaking to you yesterday, when a sample set of the Jimmy Choo and Ugg collection began touring Jimmy Choo boutiques and was officially made available for pre-order for a 24-hour period. {Stylelist}

And would you kindly tell Supermodel Amber Valletta she’s looking pretty hot in this unfortunate collaboration’s ad campaign, but no actual, self-respecting, motorcycle-riding, badass biker chick would actually be caught dead wearing the collection’s gold and silver-studded black Mandah boots.

We loved the cheap thrill of your fling with H&M, but on this tawdry dalliance, we have to part ways.

With sincere regrets,

Signature9

The Best and Worst Advice for Walking in High Heels http://198.46.88.49/style/shoes/the-best-and-worst-advice-for-walking-in-high-heels http://198.46.88.49/style/shoes/the-best-and-worst-advice-for-walking-in-high-heels#respond Wed, 08 Sep 2010 20:22:38 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=15761 Today, InStyle posted a quick little guide to the art of walking in high heels. Their tips included searching for shoes with a forward arch, scratching the soles of the shoes to avoid slipping, having the toe stretched out to keep it from pinching your piggies and using water to soften leather and mold it to your own feet.

Very high heels? The best advice is probably to wear while seated.

These are all great high heel walking tips, and we thought surely there must be tons more floating around cyberland. Want more tips for walking in any pair like InStyle offered? We’ve compiled the best ones (and the worst) here for a complete guide to stiletto steadiness:

  • Keep good posture: You’ve heard it before – shoulders back, head up. But what is even more important here is keeping your abs tucked and tight for balance, especially if you’re teetering on 8-inch spikes.
  • Buy the right size: Seems too easy, but having enough room for your foot, while ensuring your foot is correctly distributed over the shape of the shoe can vastly improve the comfort of heels.
  • Step lightly: If you stomp down on every step, the greater impact will just wear your feet out faster, and could potentially lead to more friction and blisters.
  • Land on the ball of your foot: Walking on your heels or toes will only further throw your balance.
  • Practice: Walking around in a pair of high heels at home before wearing them out will help you get accustomed to the extra height and shifted balance. It’s also smart to try dancing in them at home before hitting the floor at a wedding or club.
  • Avoid socks and tights: If you’re an experienced heel walker or you can find the kind of tights with grips on the soles, go for it. Otherwise, adding a slippery fabric between your foot and the shoe can be disastrous. Proof: Back in 2008, models for Prada stumbled on the catwalk from wearing socks in their heels.
  • Use those thigh muscles: If you can feel them contracting while you walk, you’re getting it right.
  • It always helps if your high heels actually have heels. If you aren’t Daphne Guiness, you’ll probably end up on the floor. Lady Gaga can attest to this.
  • If you can’t walk in the shoes, don’t wear them: The best advice of all.

And here, just for funsies, some terrible advice for walking in heels we found while searching the Internet:

  • Cling to a friend for extra stability
  • Wear your heels only when you can avoid walking altogether.
  • Walk like you are on a tight rope with both arms outstretched to maintain your balance.

Brian Atwood Steps Into a Larger Market With B Brian Atwood http://198.46.88.49/style/shoes/brian-atwood-steps-into-a-larger-market-with-b-brian-atwood http://198.46.88.49/style/shoes/brian-atwood-steps-into-a-larger-market-with-b-brian-atwood#respond Thu, 02 Sep 2010 18:09:00 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=15653 Luxury high-end shoe designer, Brian Atwood, has recently signed a deal with Jones Apparel Group to create a more affordable line of shoes, apparel and accessories. As Atwood describes it, “The cool, East Village girls who have great style are kind of a muse,” he told WWD of the collection’s design philosophy. {Fabsugar} “It will just be with a different edge, but always have the same core values.”

The new lineup of shoes will debut in the fall of 2011 and retail for around $200-$500-  a major markdown from his signature collection.

The line is aimed at high-end department stores and upscale specialty boutiques, and Atwood notes, “We don’t ever call it diffusion because it is really a counterpart to the main line. It was something I felt that we needed as part of our brand. We love what we do and if we can give any part of Brian Atwood to a larger audience, that is what really excited me.” {Fashionologie}

It’s always a welcome thing to see any high-end designer go for a wider audience with a secondary line. Being able to offer expertise and quality for a mass market, at reasonable price points, is – no pun intended – a step in the right direction. Plus, secondary lines are an indication that the top tier line will be able to continue at what’s usually a slower growth rate. Mass market sales often buoy high-end sales (which can be shaky depending on economic conditions). Thinking back to Christian Lacroix, part of the reason he wasn’t able to survive the worst of the economic times is because there were no sunglasses, handbags, shoes or other items available at a mass level to balance out the dip in sales of couture. While designer accessories, including shoes, fared better than clothing we can’t wait to see what Brian Atwood has in store for next year.

Shoes Under $100: Flat, Summer Sandals to Wear Everywhere http://198.46.88.49/style/shoes/shoes-under-100-flat-summer-sandals-to-wear-everywhere http://198.46.88.49/style/shoes/shoes-under-100-flat-summer-sandals-to-wear-everywhere#respond Wed, 28 Jul 2010 22:44:43 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=14685

It’s summer and it’s hot, which means you have the perfect excuse to wear comfortable, flat sandals for work and play, but that doesn’t mean your footwear has to be unstylish or sloppy. From gladiator-inspired sandals to peep-toe ballet flats, the options are endless, and they afford you no excuse for worn-out flip flops, which doctors have said can cause more foot problems than high heels because of lack of support. {Forbes}

Not to worry! You won’t even want to wear those boring thongs once you check out these wear-anywhere flat styles at affordable prices:

These SM Luxe Cruzer Gladiator (top) sandals got a “Very Comfy” rating from users on DSW.com, where you can score a pair for $79.95, available in black and taupe. {DSW}

The peep toe of SM’s Penne Flat makes the style summery. $49.95 will get you a pair of bright, fun blue suede shoes.  Cheetah print, or basic neutrals like black, grey and taupe to match any outfit are also available. {DSW}

Dolce Vita’s Ontario Sandal for Macy’s is perfect for women with shorter legs because of its lack of ankle cuff, so the leg remains streamlined. They are available for $34.99 at macys.com in pink, dark silver, black and black leopard. {Macy’s}

Mossim’so Wakeisha D’Orsay braided flats are just plain cool – and you can’t beat the $17.99 price! Find them in black, silver or gold. {Target}

Dolce Vita for Target to Launch Exclusively at East Harlem Location http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/dolce-vita-for-target-to-launch-exclusively-at-east-harlem-location http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/dolce-vita-for-target-to-launch-exclusively-at-east-harlem-location#respond Sat, 24 Jul 2010 20:41:00 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=14621 Dolce Vita is the latest label to create a lower-priced department store line, but they are taking this trend one step further and initially launching the collection exclusively at the new Target store in East Harlem to open this Sunday. The shoe line will not hit other Target stores until August 22.  {The Cut}

Dolce Vita’s prices normally start around $150 for shoes usually available at higher end stores like Bloomingdale’s, but images of three styles from the exclusive collection are up at Target.com, and their prices are between $29.99 and $34.99. None of the shoes, however, are available just yet. {RackedNY}

The shoes are faux leather, whereas Dolce Vita’s regular collection products are 100 percent authentic, but who could pass up such a bargain? Vegan style shoppers will probably consider that a positive, and for the price it wouldn’t be too expensive to grab a second pair in case the first wears out.

We especially like the Buckle Ankle Boot – cute, and they look comfortable, and the studded shoes (metallic flats and black brogues) would be good basics to carry over into fall. Will launching the shoes exclusively at one Target store pay off in the long run though? We get that it’s supposed to drive people to the new Target location (New York City’s first, BTW), but we don’t think women will be flocking to East Harlem for the sake of a good deal on new Dolce Vita shoes considering the array of other designer capsule collections in such a wide range of stores these days. On the other hand, the Liberty of London pop-up sold out in record time (less than 24hours), and the new East Harlem store is expected to be around a tad longer so perhaps it will be a good way to get off on a good foot.

Money Can Definitely Buy You Love – In Shoes Anyway http://198.46.88.49/style/shoes/money-can-definitely-buy-you-love-in-shoes-anyway http://198.46.88.49/style/shoes/money-can-definitely-buy-you-love-in-shoes-anyway#respond Thu, 17 Jun 2010 17:30:18 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=11589 You might reconsider The Beatles’ advice after seeing shoe designer Georgina Goodman’s new “LOVE” pumps that run for $1,140 (or the flats for $672). Of the two color options – rainbow and black or black and buffer – the former seems to really emphasize the loving statement, while the latter doesn’t seem to do the shoes enough justice. If you’re going to wear your heart on your soles, make them stand out!

The Georgina Goodman website explains her philosophy of “Being In Love,” and because of this, the phrase “Made In Love” is inscribed on the sole of every shoe she designs. In line with one of her strong principles, “Love is our freedom”, these new shoes were made for summer and truly do give your foot plenty of freedom. Heartwarming, but not footwarming. Perfect for summer!

Although the price isn’t all that loveable, don’t worry, Georgina: we’re head over heels — for these heels, at least.

Running with Heels tipped us off to Heather Williams’ Saks Fifth Avenue debut in Manhattan. Filled with urban, trendy gladiator-style designs, Williams inspiration for her Spring/Summer 2010 collection comes from historical NYC landmarks like the Brooklyn Bridge. We already know how much the fashion crowd loves the frozen music of architecture, so we’re sure the clean lines on these skyscraping heels will find fast fans.
