Fortunately, little Harper’s first photos seem to indicate a slightly more relatable childhood start.

Mom tweeted a picture of dad and daughter, and proud papa David Beckham responded on Facebook with a picture of his two girls catching a nap.

And most surprising is baby Harper looking like a baby! No mink onesies, diamond studded rattles, tiny handbags or baby wigs . Maybe they’re out of range on these shots, but aside from looking like they’ve lucked out with a baby who sleeps – and allows mom to nap – the photos are wonderfully normal. More designers are putting out children’s lines these days, so we could be mistaken, but the blanket and hat Harper wears in her closeup with dad look like (gasp) standard issue baby basics.

We also learned that Harper’s name did not, in fact, come due to some kind of arrangement with Harper’s Bazaar for debut photos, but from Victoria’s admiration for “To Kill a Mockingbird” author Harper Lee. {Daily Mail}

And just in case the favorite jersey number as a name thing weren’t indication enough that David Beckham is pretty excited to have another girl in the house, he laced up a pair of pink and white soccer shoes with all four of his children’s names embroidered on them for his latest game.

David and Victoria Welcome Harper Seven Beckham, Who May Follow In Suri Cruise’s Footsteps http://198.46.88.49/living/kids/david-and-victoria-welcome-harper-seven-beckham-who-may-follow-in-suri-cruises-footsteps http://198.46.88.49/living/kids/david-and-victoria-welcome-harper-seven-beckham-who-may-follow-in-suri-cruises-footsteps#comments Mon, 11 Jul 2011 16:58:24 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=20461

Our family photos don't look like this either

Over the weekend, the fashion designer formerly known as Posh Spice (Victoria Beckham) gave birth to a 7 lb. 10 oz. baby girl named Harper Seven. She joins unusually named siblings Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz, but is Victoria and David Beckham‘s first girl.

There’s no word on where Harper came from – though it seems perfect for selling exclusive baby picture rights to Harper’s Bazaar – but Seven is for David Beckham’s old Manchester United jersey number. Or, the Beckhams are big Erykah Badu fans (she has a son named Seven).

Either way, we’re sure Suri Cruise is going to have some fierce competition for best dressed toddler in a few months. The Daily Mail reported that little Harper has a pair of custom made, red-soled Louboutin baby booties waiting for her and a mini closet  full of designer onesies, but the story has since gone missing (you can still read a hilarious recap at DListed). Which means it’s not certain that Harper Beckham will be next in our awkward stages of girlhood trend watch, but when your pre-arrival photos look like this

it’s pretty much a given that stepping up the glamour is a requirement, even if you can’t actually walk.

Trend Alert: Fashion Week Runways are White Hot http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/trend-alert-fashion-week-runways-are-white-hot http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/trend-alert-fashion-week-runways-are-white-hot#respond Mon, 20 Sep 2010 11:15:05 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=15942

It’s official, for Spring 2011 white is the new black. Natural tones are the way to go year and the sensible and classy looks we saw strutting the runways at Mercedes-Benz Fashion week showcased just how red hot head-to-toe white can be.

The photos above are of nine different white looks from designers’ SS11 presentations and shows at Lincoln Center in Manhattan for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. This past week has flown by and the shows are getting great reviews. Clearly white is in for both men (at Lacoste) and women (at nearly every other show) next year as the crisp, clean shade is seen repeatedly on the catwalk.

We are intrigued by the range in proportion, drape and silhouette throughout the collections and the diversity in fabric and detail make for a really classically-dressed season.

Just some of the designers offering head-to-toe white ensembles in their Spring/Summer 2011 collections include Victoria Beckham, BCBG Max Azria, Doo-Ri, Christian Siriano, Frank Tell, Jen Kao, Calvin Klein, Julian Louie, Nicole Miller, Mandy Coon, Peter Som, Rag & Bone, Band of Outsiders, Jill Stuart, Lacoste, Rebecca Minkoff, Ports 1961, Prabal Gurung and Derek Lam.

Fashion’s Night Out: The Top 10 Events for Celeb Seekers http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/fashions-night-out-the-top-10-events-for-celeb-seekers http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/fashions-night-out-the-top-10-events-for-celeb-seekers#respond Thu, 19 Aug 2010 23:43:16 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=15201 Last year we covered Fashion’s Night Out from Paris, where we caught up with Carine Roitfeld, to London and New York. Each city was an overall success in terms of bringing out the shoppers, but the feel of each event was distinctly different. The Paris Fashion Celebration Night focused exclusively on the high end merchants along the Triangle D’Or (Golden Triangle – the area along Avenue Montaigne, George V and Champs-Elysées). Roitfeld made it clear that small and luxe was more in keeping with Paris Vogue’s reader, and this year has the same list of merchants. Aside from Vogue editors, who are fashion stars in their own right, there weren’t many big names tied to the events.

Allowing the clothes to be the stars of the evening certainly has its merits, but we’d be lying if we didn’t admit that we’re pretty excited about the madness that will surely accompany the more inclusive New York event. In Paris, there was champagne, cotton candy and chocolate fondue depending on which store you stopped at, but New York promises to pull out all the stops: celebrities, designers and shopping specials to go along with your champagne.

Still, everyone has a different shopping personality. An Olsen twin and throngs of fans waiting for an opportunity to meet their favorite designer might be a dream shopping trip for some, and an absolute nightmare for others. With that in mind, we’ve gone through the hundreds of events on the Fashion’s Night Out website so far and narrowed them down to the top 10 events by shopping personality. Today, we take a look at the must-attend events for those who like a bit of celebrity with their shopping. In the coming days, we’ll cover events for those who prefer something more low key, downtown style, fashion, fashion and more fashion and the girl who just wants to have fun.

The Starlet

Big and flashy is how you roll. If anyone asks “who are you wearing?” you’ve got a list of famous names on the tip of your tongue. Celebrities, designers and hundreds of adoring fans? You couldn’t come up with a better shopping scenario.

David Beckham to Design Menswear for Victoria’s Label http://198.46.88.49/mens-style/mens-clothing/david-beckham-to-design-menswear-for-victorias-label http://198.46.88.49/mens-style/mens-clothing/david-beckham-to-design-menswear-for-victorias-label#respond Tue, 03 Aug 2010 14:22:39 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=14915 David Beckham will reportedly design a menswear line for spring/summer 2011 under wife Victoria’s own popular VB Denim fashion label. And apparently it took some convincing from the former Spice Girl for Beckham to agree to do it. {Vogue UK}

“Victoria has been trying to persuade him to do it for a while and he’s finally succumbed,” a source close to the Beckhams told the Mail on Sunday. “She has reassured him that he has an eye for fashion.”

The line will supposedly include “an entire range of men’s couture clothing of fitted suits, smart day wear and an evening range.” {Styleite}

We can only hope the good-looking soccer star will appear in the ads for the line as well. Something akin to his previous Armani underwear photos would at least draw attention from the ladies (and a few guys as well).

This isn’t Beckham’s first reported foray into fashion design. Last year, WWD wrote that he would be collaborating on an Adidas Originals collection with Designer James Bond. {Styleite}

The new menswear collection is sure to be stellar, especially if the designs reflect Beckham’s crisp style – and if Victoria and her team are overseeing it. We’ll keep you posted when the inevitable sneak peeks of the line leak their way onto the fashion Internet.

No Fragrance Deal for Lady Gaga (Yet) http://198.46.88.49/style/beauty/no-fragrance-deal-for-lady-gaga-yet http://198.46.88.49/style/beauty/no-fragrance-deal-for-lady-gaga-yet#respond Thu, 15 Jul 2010 19:47:49 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=14206 A rumor that Lady Gaga signed on with Coty Inc. to create a perfume began in the U.K. and spread through fashion media outlets this week, but now the fragrance company’s marketing department has said it is not true. {The Cut}

As long as any prospective fragrances smell better than those glasses, we're sure it will do fine

“I know nothing of this project,” Senior Vice President of Global Marketing for the firm’s Coty Beauty division Steve Mormoris told WWD. “It is a totally false rumor.”

It is easy to see how the rumor spread so easily since Coty leads the celebrity fragrance trend with past and present scents from Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé Knowles, Sarah Jessica Parker, David and Victoria Beckham and Halle Berry in addition to some 10 others. It seems, however, the extent of Gaga’s involvement in the beauty biz remains with MAC Cosmetics. She is the spokeswoman for the brand’s AIDS Fund and collaborated with MAC to create a signature Viva Glam lipstick. {WWD}

Even though Gaga is not working on a scent yet, we’re betting she will be at some point. The Cut’s bloggers have been speculating what it will smell like, but we think the more interesting aspect will be the bottle design, which is more likely to be the focus of Gaga’s creative weirdness. Maybe the cap will resemble a hair bow, or perhaps the entire thing will look like a hand reaching up in the spirit of the design of the double grand piano she shared with Elton John at this year’s Grammy Awards. Leave a comment and tell us what you think it will look like!

Our Favorite Denim Trend? Bleached and Battered http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/bleached-skinny-jeans-trend http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/bleached-skinny-jeans-trend#respond Wed, 10 Feb 2010 16:31:09 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=9283 Celebrities everywhere have been spied sporting this hot trend in denim everywhere-and luckily for us it’s a style we can all pull off if done right. Some favorites include Paige Premium’s custom-designed pair for Ashley Tisdale {Denim Blog}, the version seen on Victoria Beckham from Balmain {Denimology} retailing at around $2000, and Fergie’s dark blue and white wash by {Denim Therapy}. The basic colorwaves let you mix and match tops- which should remain solid in color, with minimal frills.

Designers from every angle are taking this trend for a ride. Luxury brands like Balmain and more commercial names like J Brand, 7 For All Mankind, Citizens of Humanity and Diesel are putting their own spin on what looks  like a major ongoing trend.

The effortless, chic style this abstract art achieves makes this seem like a trend not set to expire anytime soon.

Our personal recommendation? The J Brand “Cult” skinnys in gray and white are super comfortable and the detail is not tacky or splotchy. The high waist in the back keeps them from falling down or riding up as you walk, and was a favorite gift this Christmas (thanks mom!).

New Lines: Marc Jacobs x Victoria Beckham and Lacoste http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/new-lines-marc-jacobs-x-victoria-beckham-and-lacoste http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/new-lines-marc-jacobs-x-victoria-beckham-and-lacoste#comments Thu, 17 Dec 2009 02:45:09 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=7930 2It seems the future holds a collaboration between Marc Jacobs and Victoria Beckham. Talks of a fur-laden line is said to be in the works for next year. Both Jacobs and Beckham are known for their impeccable sense of style so we can’t wait to see what they come up with.

Also buzzing is the new accessory line Lacoste plans to introduce to compliment their sporty collection. They are following in the footsteps of many luxury brands that are expanding into the accessory market. With clothing sales down, accessories can be a  label’s recessionary best friend.
