Nooka's glow in the dark sunglasses for those of you who wear them at night.

Is this some kind of trick? On Wednesday, The Fashion Spot tweeted a sneak peak of a pair of Nooka Glow in the Dark Mercury Sunglasses to be made available in March on nooka.com.

The shades are pretty cool if you like the swallowed-up face look (which these days, most people do), and we admit it did take us a minute to figure out the problem here. This is it: What is the point of glow in the dark sunglasses? Aren’t sunglasses meant to be worn in the bright light? Isn’t that their purpose? To shade your eyes from bright sun light?

We know celebrities like Usher and other Joe-cool types like to wear their sunglasses at night, but we can’t really see Usher wearing these to the next big awards show or Hollywood event he attends, and the average person doesn’t go out with shades on at night.

No word on how much the glow in the dark sunglasses will cost yet, but regular Nooka Mercury Sunglasses – which come in neon colors as well as black and white – go for $130. Why do all these IEJ products always have such a hefty price tag? Save your pennies for something that makes more sense.

Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian, Alicia Keys and Daphne Guiness Are Alive Again http://198.46.88.49/electrotech/lady-gaga-kim-kardashian-alicia-keys-and-daphne-guiness-are-alive-again http://198.46.88.49/electrotech/lady-gaga-kim-kardashian-alicia-keys-and-daphne-guiness-are-alive-again#comments Tue, 07 Dec 2010 00:05:35 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=17156 Daphne Guiness, Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Hudson for the Buy Life anti-Twitter campaign

Welcome back, ladies.

In a fundraising effort on World AIDS day (Decmber 1st), several celebrity tweeters including Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian, Alicia Keys, Daphne Guiness, Justin Timberlake and Jennifer Hudson declared themselves digitally dead until $1 million was raised to support Keep a Child Alive, a charity that provides food and medical care to children with AIDS in Africa and India.

Usher jumped the gun with 4 tweets this weekend {Dlisted} but as of today the campaign hit the target goal of $1 million.

Lots of people thought the digital silent treatment was a strange way to go, and in fact half of the $1 million was donated by billionaire Stewart Rahr.

Gawker wondered if Kim Kardashian would stay off of Twitter forever, and while celebrity tweets have been assigned a commercial value, it didn’t seem like many people wanted them back enough to pay for the privilege – even if doing so would support a worthwhile cause. As much as we can joke about the uselessness of most tweets, it probably didn’t help that the stars couldn’t tweet to remind their followers to contribute.

Twitter may not have proven to be the biggest bargaining chip when it comes to fundraising, but $500,000 in 6 days (the amount fans donated before Rahr’s contribution) isn’t insignificant.

Usher Wants to Make Lingerie? http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/usher-wants-to-make-lingerie http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/usher-wants-to-make-lingerie#respond Thu, 15 Jul 2010 10:49:42 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=14160 Lately it seems every designer wants to get in on the lingerie collection trend, but rumor has it that Usher wants to make a lingerie line. {Styleite} Jean Paul Gaultier designing under garments for La Perla is great, but what exactly qualifies Usher to create lingerie? Sometimes we’re pleasantly surprised by celebrity clothing lines, but lately they’ve been nothing but trashy or like something out of the Frederick’s of Hollywood catalog with a ridiculous pricetag added for fake prestige.

Apparently panties being thrown on stage has awakened a sleeping undergarment designer, or something. The weirdest part is that he wants to team with Jimmy Choo’s Tamara Mellon. She’s great at making shoes, and while sexy heels and lingerie are a pairing that lots of ladies (and guys) enjoy, it still seems like an odd step for the brand.

Styleite points out that Usher has been “flighty” with his plans to found a clothing line before, so perhaps he’s not all that serious about the idea.

Note to Usher: Stick with the fragrance promotion like countless other celebrities (now including Lady Gaga) do.
