Fashionista reports that Jason Campbell, editor of the JC Report, has confirmed Deacon’s new role at the label. {via Twitter}

The appointment comes after a turbulent period for the brand that saw Mounir Moufarrige ousted as CEO after bringing Linday Lohan into the label as “Creative Adviser,” a role in which she shared design responsibilities with Estrella Archs. Archs replaced designer Esteban Cortazar, who chose to resign rather than share creative responsibilities with Lohan.

Lohan and Arch’s first collection was reportedly rushed, almost unanimously panned by fashion press and buyers, and even by label namesake Emanuel Ungaro himself.

Moufarrige Out, Lohan Still In? http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/moufarrige-out-lohan-still-in http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/moufarrige-out-lohan-still-in#respond Thu, 17 Dec 2009 00:36:33 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=7998 Mounir Moufarrige is now former CEO of Ungaro.

Moufarrige made headlines when he appointed the troubled Lindsay Lohan to a role as creative adviser for the French fashion house. Emanuel Ungaro, founder of the eponymous label, has not been involved in design since 2005, but recently voiced his displeasure calling the Lohan helmed collection a “disaster.”

Moufarrige denied reports of stores canceling orders and refusing to stock the collection, however many unnamed buyers were rumored to have declined invitations to the show due to Lohan’s involvement. Moufarrige pointed to the economy as the reason for the lack of sales.

The statement issued today makes no direct connection between Lohan’s appointment and Moufarrige’s ouster, with an Ungaro spokesperson citing a desire to focus on a watch and jewelry business as the former CEO’s official reason for stepping down. Lohan remains with the label, as does designer Estrella Archs.

Lohan Stays, Despite Mean Girls Of Fashion http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/lohan-stays-despite-mean-girls-of-fashion http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/lohan-stays-despite-mean-girls-of-fashion#respond Tue, 24 Nov 2009 23:32:57 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=6835

To the surprise/horror of the fashion world, celebrity Lindsay Lohan will continue into the next runway season as artistic advisor for French fashion house Ungaro.

Rumor is that Lohan was brought on merely to generate publicity during the recession-driven economic slowdown, and publicity is certainly what Ungaro is getting — although not necessarily positive.  Reports show that Lohan’s debut collection is selling, albeit not as well as the company had hoped.

It’s easy to be cynical about Lohan’s collaboration and, although we’ll keep an open mind for next season, we’re certainly not expecting to be wowed.  (And we wonder how LiLo’s possible incarceration will work into the scenario: jailbird inspiration, anyone?)

Lindsay: the Lesser of Two Evils http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/lindsay-the-lesser-of-two-evils http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/lindsay-the-lesser-of-two-evils#respond Fri, 18 Sep 2009 01:27:11 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=669 Naeem Khan is one of the few designers to vocalize what many are thinking by saying Lindsay Lohan’s appointment at Ungaro is a “dangerous move,” but it turns out things could have been worse. Paris Hilton and Madonna were in the running for the job Lohan nabbed. Madonna’s stints with labels like Versace and Louis Vuitton – and heck, even a line with H&M would have made her our obvious choice, but Lohan does have some background in fashion with a successful line of leggings. And we’re certain that whatever Lohan dreams up will be at least marginally more stylish than the pink, bedazzled monstrosities which would have inevitably been forced on us had Hilton been placed at the helm.

Still, when the two choices are Paris or Lindsay it seems something’s been lost either way.
