Shows like True Blood and Twilight have taken audiences by storm and infiltrated internet blogs and social networks like wildfire. Naturally, fashion editorials took notice and decided to play up this supernatural craze. Though Ugly Betty‘s Wilhemina Slater declared it a stupid editorial idea, seems her real life counterparts embraced the idea a bit more. The gothic themes are popping up more and more, especially in menswear. So far, we haven’t spotted too much glitter, so the creative types seem to strike an appropriate balance.

Though we can’t help but feel some trends should be left to run their course in their original form. Take the Three Wolf Moon Tee for example. While a striking ensemble for Dwight Schrute on The Office, it’s starting to go a little too far, with one of the wolves deciding – like many who get a shot of fame, to try a solo career in women’s fashion via a T-shirt by Ronny Kobo. We’ll accept the editorials, but let’s not let pop culture trends go too far and throw creative styling to the wolves.

Menswear Trend Alert: ‘Washed Leather Jacket’ http://198.46.88.49/mens-style/menswear-trend-alert-washed-leather-jacket http://198.46.88.49/mens-style/menswear-trend-alert-washed-leather-jacket#respond Thu, 26 Nov 2009 17:57:31 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=6905 55

The lates trend to hit the menswear scene this season is the washed leather jacket. A distinct worn look accents the piece and creates an edgy feel as opposed to the more tailored leather looks we’ve seen on the runways. If the style suits you, there are great deals to be had on designer discount sites like Bluefly and Shopstyle.

Bye-Bye Blue Jeans, Hello Tie Dye? http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/bye-bye-blue-jeans-hello-tie-dye http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/bye-bye-blue-jeans-hello-tie-dye#respond Thu, 05 Nov 2009 14:28:57 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=5251 balmain-tie-dye-jeans-thumb-400x621-5334

We’ve seen everything from polka-dots to stripes in denim’s past and the hottest trend right now seems to be tie-dyed jeans. Celebs from Victoria Beckham to Fergie have been photographed rocking the style, and Fidelity’s spring 2010 collection offers a colorful take on the youthful look. Skinny jeans are a slimming asset to add to your closet, and the recent creative take on the classic “blue jean” is sure to add diversity to your wardrobe.

Coming Soon: Levi’s x Tommy Guerrero http://198.46.88.49/mens-style/mens-clothing/coming-soon-levis-x-tommy-guerrero http://198.46.88.49/mens-style/mens-clothing/coming-soon-levis-x-tommy-guerrero#respond Wed, 04 Nov 2009 18:53:48 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=5228

Fitting seamlessly into the recent Americana trend is the latest collaboration between Levis and skater and musician Tommy Guerrero.

No word yet on when the collab officially drops, but for now we get a sneak peak at the above two pieces which mix the classic Levi’s denim look with a kitschy Mexican-inspired theme.

When the collection finally does hit stores, though, please (do we really have to tell you this?) don’t wear both pieces together at the same time, unless you actually want to look like a bad hybrid between 21 Jump Street and There Will Be Blood.

Trend, Treat, Treasure: Mushrooms http://198.46.88.49/living/home/trend-treat-treasure-mushrooms http://198.46.88.49/living/home/trend-treat-treasure-mushrooms#respond Fri, 30 Oct 2009 11:20:06 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=4551 There are some trends that are purposefully outrageous – take, for example, the most recent runway trend of traipsing about in your knickers. However, there are some trends that are just puzzlingly odd. This is one of the latter.

Believe it or not, the humble mushroom has been making quite a splash on the home decor front – in pillows, patterns, you name it. While this trend can be downright adorable and, if done right, even classy, it can also be unbearably kitschy. But, never fear! We’ve scouted out the best ways for you to get a fab (and subtle) ‘shroomy’ look for your home at any price point - without the nasty fungal connotations…

Sleeves: A New Wedding Trend? http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/sleeves-a-new-wedding-trend http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/sleeves-a-new-wedding-trend#respond Thu, 29 Oct 2009 20:53:20 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=4658 Fashionistas and brides-to-be are still gushing over the Grace Kelly-inspired dress Ivanka Trump wore for her wedding.

Now Ivanka is one of those rare lucky women who would honestly look stunning in nothing but a brown paper bag, but we still admire her for taking a risk and foregoing the pretty yet rather boring strapless princess gown for a more demure look.  With sleeves.

Usually any mention of sleeves on a wedding gown has women immediately running the other way, but Ivanka’s Vera Wang shows it’s possible to be tasteful and stylishly covered without looking like an unfortunate blast from the past.

Show Your Roots http://198.46.88.49/style/beauty/show-your-roots http://198.46.88.49/style/beauty/show-your-roots#respond Tue, 27 Oct 2009 20:16:20 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=4403

Ombré and dip-dying have been on again, off again trends on the runways for the past several seasons; this time they’re appearing not on silken dresses, but on silken tresses.

We think Katie Shillingford, above, totally rocks the look in a futuristic Fifth Element sort of way, but we’re unsure on how the trend will pan out for the rest of us.  Unless you’re daring and willing to let your hair dictate the rest of your wardrobe, we wouldn’t recommend asking your hairdresser for something quite so bold as hers.  More wearable (and office-appropriate), however, would be to softly blend your regrowth into the rest of your hair, so you get a loose, youthful, natural play of color.
