Ill advised permanent tattoos have made a few appearances in this space, we’ve seen everyone from Beyonce to Betsey Johnson revive the temporary tattoos of the ’90s, and now there are temporary lip tattoos from a company called Violent Lips. {Racked}

We have yet to see a single example that makes a good case for permanent lip (or facial) tattoos, so fakes are the best possible place to start with this idea, but do we really need zebra stripe lips?

Some of the options look like fun, but we’re a little nervous that things could head into an Ed Hardy-esque direction where it’s only a matter of time before the patterns get louder, tackier and more bedazzled as D-list reality stars make them famous. Not to mention the possibility of a combination of press-on lip prints with press-on eyeshadow prints (available here, if you’re interested), press-on nail polish prints that results in the kind of beauty press-on explosion normally only seen in a Ke$ha video.

Assuming that doesn’t happen, we’ll admit that a few of the patterns do look tempting, and if you’ve every wanted to do any Rocky Horror Picture Show-style videos, the red glitter option would be pretty amazing for that. Or, if you’re a fan of really shiny lips, but don’t want to eat glitter all night. We’re more than a little tempted by the rose print, and the pink animal prints have Nicki Minaj’s name written all over them – okay, technically they have animal print written all over them, but you get the idea. At $14.95 for a 3-pack, the price isn’t too bad, so that helps also.

Given the fleeting nature of these tattoos – according to the Violent Lips website, they last 4-8 hours, and the growing number of press-on beauty products we’re sure at least a few people will jump on this trend.

Beyonce’s House of Deréon and Betsey Johnson Revive the Fashionable Faux Ink of the 90s http://198.46.88.49/style/beauty/beyonces-house-of-dereon-and-betsey-johnson-revive-the-fashionable-faux-ink-of-the-90s http://198.46.88.49/style/beauty/beyonces-house-of-dereon-and-betsey-johnson-revive-the-fashionable-faux-ink-of-the-90s#comments Mon, 27 Sep 2010 14:17:27 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=16083 Last Thursday kicked off of the 6th edition of the London International Tattoo Convention, where up to 20,000 attendees gather to learn and share ideas and innovations in the tattoo market. Industry insiders, tattoo artists and tattoo enthusiasts come together to marvel at the intricate workmanship, new technologies and professional insights that expand and update the industry yearly. In this past week not one, but two fashion labels are following the trend that Chanel kicked off last year, and have included temporary tattoos as part of their upcoming collections.

First, Beyonce and her stylist mother, Tina, have teamed up with airbrushing company, Temptu to create limited-edition body art kits for the House of Deréon Fall 2010 ad campaign. The temporary tattoos will be available this November 1st in Deréon’s signature fleur-de-lis icon, rock ‘n roll, jewelry, and spider designs. They are waterproof and created to last two to five days. The kits will range from basic to deluxe and will be sold for $16 to $34 at Sephora stores and online at sephora.com, temptu.com and dereon.com, while supplies last. {Stylelist}

Betsey Johnson is the second designer to dabble in temporary tattoos, offering a recent collection of jewelry-deigned faux ink. The pearl, jeweled and chain-linked designs are created to mimic and exaggerate women’s accessories with an edgy, punk-rock twist. {High Snobette}

We aren’t sure how many people will rock the faux body art, but so far there is already a waiting list for Beyonce’s collection. Temporary tattoos are, of course, nothing super new – in the 90s they were all over the place. Unlike the temporary tattoos of the past, which often tried to appeal to a general audience, the latest versions are decidedly counting on more feminine details and designs. What about you? Would you revive the fake tattoo trend for fashion’s sake, or are you in favor of a more committed permanent inking?

Love it or Hate it: Chanel Spring/Summer 2010 Bares Elegant Ink http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/love-it-or-hate-it-chanel-springsummer-2010-bares-elegant-ink http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/love-it-or-hate-it-chanel-springsummer-2010-bares-elegant-ink#respond Thu, 28 Jan 2010 17:00:22 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=9078 1We first noticed Chanel’s temporary tattoo fixation among the thigh focused accessories sent down the SS2010 runways last year. A closer look at this intricate work and we are impressed! The tats are mostly delicate chains and pearls with the iconic diamond Chanel C’s wrapped around the thighs and legs of the models. At $78, the faux ink is probably the least expensive way to incorporate the interlocked Cs into your wardrobe. And of course, you don’t have to wear them at thigh level if you’re a bit more modest.

We aren’t sure if we’re ready for a revival of the ’90s trend, but this isn’t a bad place to start. While many designers turned their backs (and collections) on the rock chic looks that have dominated for years, if you’re still attached to the pretty punk aesthetic these are a fun way to toughen up the lighthearted spring looks that will be in stores soon.
