Ciclotte is an innovative exercise bike, designed and made in Italy combining idea, form and technology in rethinking the traditional aesthetic and functional values of an exercise bike. The Ciclotte is an adaptation of the Ciclò project, an innovative prototype of a single-wheel city bike, which is now part of the permanent collection exhibited at the Triennale Design Museum in Milan. Ciclotte has been manufactured using exceptional materials like carbon, steel and glass fibres representing complete innovation in the fitness sector thanks to the unique technology of the epicycloid’s transmission system.

Designed by Luca Schieppati, a young designer from Milan, and manufactured by the Lamiflex Group in Bergamo, Ciclotte puts the breaks on the design of traditional gym equipment with shapes and finishes that appeal to users looking for a more aesthetically pleasing workout. {Pulse Magazine} And, if we’re being honest, exercise machines sometimes ends up functioning more as furniture anyway. A sculptural stationary bike that can be passed off as art is far less embarrassing than the bulky treadmill that doubles as a towel rack.

Quite a step outside Cavalli’s box, but for fashion lovers and exercise enthusiasts alike, your day has finally come. The bikes will be available beginning this month alongside Roberto Cavalli Gym, a collection of fitness apparel that lets you hang on to a bit of over-the-top glamour while you sweat. The limited-edition equipment will be available in six color variations:

  • Black carbon fibre with details in jaguar-print pony
  • Fuchsia carbon fibre with details in Alcantara® (a faux suede-like textile)
  • Black carbon fibre with details in zebra-print pony
  • Gold steel with details in Alcantara®
  • Gold steel with details in jaguar-print pony
  • Silver steel with details in Alcantara®

Both the bikes and the outfits are exclusively available at Roberto Cavalli boutiques around the world. {Racked}

If Everyone Jumped: Turban-Topped Models and Celebrities, Oh My http://198.46.88.49/style/jewelry/if-everyone-jumped-turban-topped-models-and-celebrities-oh-my http://198.46.88.49/style/jewelry/if-everyone-jumped-turban-topped-models-and-celebrities-oh-my#respond Thu, 11 Nov 2010 20:42:04 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=16691

Salma Hayek and Kate Moss try to reignite the trend of glamorous turbans

If you’ve got grey hair but no money for a dye job, you’ve ever dreamed of channeling Erykah Badu, you have frequent bad hair days or you just really hate washing and or styling your hair, you can now take advantage of the latest hair trend.

This week, The New York Times declared the turban is having a moment as a completely fashionable hair accessory. Actually, The Times said the turban was never really out of style but has been lying dormant for a few years and is now making a quiet but forceful comeback. We don’t really recall a time when turbans were ever that huge of a fad. Headscarves or hair handkerchiefs, yes. Turbans, not so much.

In any case, it does seem that the turban has made a quiet emergence as all the rage on fashion runways and in celebrity circles. Jason Wu used black and cobalt turbans in his spring collection, and Vena Cava sent models down the runway in them for their own show, while Giorgio Armani used North African-inspired turbans in his most recent collection. In the celebrity corner of the ring, Solange Knowles wore a Roberto Cavalli scarf as a turban to the Tom Ford show, and Salma Hayek rocked a navy and white printed one to the Stella McCartney show in Paris. {NYTimes}

“People didn’t bite when Miuccia Prada showed them a few years ago,” stylist June Ambrose told the Times, “but since then, it’s caught on.”

This may be yet another trend that supermodel Kate Moss started, as she was spotted wearing a turban at the Met gala in May of last year.

The Times claims ordinary women are embracing the trend as well with ladies in turbans turning up on the Web site Streetpeeper.

When used in dark neutrals like navy, grey and black, the turban definitely adds a certain edge to runway shows, but we’re not sure how easy it actually is to pull off on the streets. It takes a high amount of confidence to wear a headpiece like this, but if you’re feeling it, by all means rock that turban.

On the Plus Side: Saks to Carry Plus Sized Chanel and Dolce & Gabbana http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/on-the-plus-side-saks-to-carry-plus-sized-chanel-and-dolce-gabbana http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/on-the-plus-side-saks-to-carry-plus-sized-chanel-and-dolce-gabbana#respond Thu, 29 Jul 2010 19:22:34 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=14784 Plus sized shoppers have been trying to let retailers know that an interest in designer clothes doesn’t diminish relative to an increase in size for years. Now, it seems at least one has gotten a few high end fashion lines to listen up. Starting with this season’s fall/winter collections, Saks Fifth Avenue will carry clothes from Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Yves Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen, Fendi, Donna Karan, Valentino and Roberto Cavalli in size 14 – up to size 20 for some. {Racked}

The rollout is considered a test case, and if successful, could mean a wider range of sizes in other Saks locations around the country.

The clothes won’t be in a special section, they’ll be included on the same racks as the 0-12 sizes that most items already come in. With any hope, this could be a step towards blurring the line between straight sized and plus sized fashion.

Saks and the labels haven’t rushed to comment, which may be a sign that the labels are still grappling with how to promote the expanded size options to a group of customers who’ve long been ignored. {Jezebel} But a baby step is still a step in the right direction.

Forever 21 Unveils New Designer Collection http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/forever-21-unveils-new-designer-collection http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/forever-21-unveils-new-designer-collection#comments Tue, 20 Jul 2010 00:06:40 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=14335 Launching on August 13th is the newest designer collection for the brand Forever 21. We recently told you about the chain’s new maternity line, and with the help of designer Brian Lichtenberg, nine new limited-edition designer woman’s pieces and three for men will hit 200 store locations.

Shopping at Forever 21 has always been a budget-friendly endeavor, and the new collection will not deviate from the fashion-forward (often drawing the ire of designers who feel the store’s designs aren’t original enough) and reasonably priced apparel and accessories.

Lichtenberg has been styled big name celebrities like Lady Gaga, and explains how this venture is a positive one for the Forever 21 shopper and his own career saying, “It is going to be for the customer that is younger and has seen my work on celebrities and musicians, but doesn’t have the money to plunk down for my main line. This is definitely going to be a great opportunity to be on a more global scale.” {College Fashion}

This collaboration is just the beginning of a series of collaborations that the brand is planning to embark on to offer more upscale merchandise at their signature low prices.  It seems as though the brand is taking cues from competing stores like H&M and Target who have had numerous designers (think Madonna, Roberto Cavalli, Jean-Paul Gaultier and Proenza Schouler) launch capsule collections for their brands in the past.

With over 50 copyright infringement lawsuits under their belt for drawing a little too much ‘inspiration’ from names like Anthropologie, Anna Sui and Diane Von Furstenberg, it’s seems like a smart idea for Forever 21 to bring in their own designers to catch consumer attention instead of copying others. {the Cut}

Color, Patterns, Prints Oh My! http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/color-patterns-prints-oh-my http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/color-patterns-prints-oh-my#respond Thu, 15 Apr 2010 13:55:50 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=10393 There is something carefree and whimsical about bright colors, wild patterns and mixing and matching what some consider contrasting pieces in search of the perfectly coordinated ensemble. Or not.

This past year muted colors, slim and simple silhouettes and transitional pieces were the norm, a reflection of the depressed economy and unwillingness of consumers to shop.

It seems there is a light at the end of this monochromatic tunnel and we are pleased to say it involves a lot of color.

The vibrancy of the clothes we are seeing now “exert a strong emotional pull. “They represent the mind-set of the consumer,” said Kit Yarrow, a consumer psychologist at Golden Gate University in San Francisco. “They express a budding feeling that’s more optimistic and refreshed.” {NY Times}

We are so excited about the resurrection of bright colors and prints this season. You can always count on certain designers – Roberto Cavalli, Betsey Johnson, any number of London designers, for a bit of pop. But this spring it seems everyone got in on the more colorful action.

Beth Buccini of New York boutique Kirna Zabete attributes a 12% uptick in sales to the availability of exciting prints and more vibrant colors. It’s refreshing to see fashion come back to life for the retailer as well as the consumer and we think everyone’s having fun doing it.

Take a look at some of the personal style bloggers showcasing brights and prints for spring.
