Imagine if your wallpaper was like a giant, touchscreen remote for your house: touchÂ a flower here and, voila,Â yourÂ lamp is on; rub a petal there and, hark, the sweet sounds of your iPod begin to play.

As crazy as it sounds, The Living Wall is just that.Â The “High-Low Tech Group” at MIT’s Media Lab, a group thatÂ aims to “democratize engineering” byÂ designing technologies with low-tech materials, created The Living Wall with only paper and magnetic/conducive paints.

Not only isÂ thisÂ the only interactive wallpaper we’ve ever seen (unless you count that tasty wallpaper in the WillyÂ Wonka movie), it also happens to come inÂ vivid colors and gorgeous patterns.Â

This is one practical paperÂ that comes withÂ a serious “wow” factor.

Cut paper’s just gotten a whole lot edgier.Â The New York Museum of Art and Design’s newestÂ exhibit, “Slash: Paper Under the Knife,” showcases contemporary artists who use paper (a veritableÂ endangered species in this digital age) in innovative ways. The result is an absolutely breathtakingÂ array of human bodies, intricate machinery, and explosive clouds crafted – somehow – from paper. The exhibit is open until January, but you shouldn’t wait to check out Andreas Kocks’ gorgeous and inspiring works – they’ll forever change the way you see paper. Trust us, these aren’t the construction paper cut-outs you have in mind.
