Nike – Signature9 http://198.46.88.49 Lifestyle Intelligence Fri, 14 Jan 2011 13:57:59 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.3.4 High-Heeled Nikes: If Everyone Jumped http://198.46.88.49/style/shoes/high-heeled-nikes-if-everyone-jumped http://198.46.88.49/style/shoes/high-heeled-nikes-if-everyone-jumped#respond Fri, 14 Jan 2011 13:57:59 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=17818 Just when we thought Teva Stilettos were the craziest footwear we’d ever seen, we find high-heeled Nike Dunks and Air Jordans floating around the Internet. Glamour tweeted about them this week, and they are available for purchase here, but Highsnobette doubts they were put on the market by Nike. If they’re correct, we could be hearing about a trademark infringement lawsuit sometime soon, since the shoes have the Nike swoosh, Air Jordan logo and plenty of other Nike branding on them.

There is no way we would ever consider wearing a Teva Stiletto, but you want to know something? Even though they’re probably a counterfeiter’s concept product for now, these 4-inch tall Nike Dunks are pretty darn cool. Especially the purple ones. And the red ones. Plus, all of the styles sell for around $100, which isn’t too terrible for a Nike or a high heel. While we don’t support fakes, a lot of the styles are sold out which means someone’s buying. Something to take note of for the next sneaker collaboration.

Would you dare wear?

Nike Wants to Take Shoes Back to the Future http://198.46.88.49/style/shoes/nike-wants-to-take-shoes-back-to-the-future http://198.46.88.49/style/shoes/nike-wants-to-take-shoes-back-to-the-future#respond Fri, 03 Sep 2010 21:05:16 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=15624 Remember Michael J. Fox’s futuristic, self-tying shoes in Back to the Future Part II?

Nike, whose logo appeared on those shoes, is reportedly working on sneakers that come with an automatic lacing system just like the ones in the movie. The company apparently filed a patent in 2009 for self-lacing sneakers that feature straps that run over the top of the foot and around the ankle as well as a button near the heel. The straps open and close to switch between a tight or loosened position when the button is pushed.

The system is driven by a tiny, battery-powered motor in the heel. {Daily Mail}

The New York Daily News obtained documents filed by Nike in regards to the high tech kicks, and an accompanying diagram shows the sneakers will likely be high tops.

It looks like the real 2015, the year Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) transports to in the popular 1980s film, might be quite like the movie version of the year, as a hoverboard that floats in mid-air much like the one in Back to the Future was also developed earlier this year. The hoverboard operated using electromagnets and lasers but had limited movement range and weight capacity. Its creator is reportedly working on a better version. {Daily Mail}

We wonder just how much Nike’s fancy automatic sneakers will cost if they hit the mass market – not to mention how long the small battery used to operate them will last. On the down side, if you think it’s difficult teaching kids to tie their shoes now, if these actually come to fruition they may never learn! Okay, so it may not be that extreme, but we can see some parents wanting to hang on to the nostalgic milestone of a child learning to tie their laces, but what about you? Would self-lacing shoes be on your 2015 wishlist if available?

Stella McCartney to Make Stellar Uniforms for 2012 Olympics http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/stella-mccartney-to-make-stellar-uniforms-for-2012-olympics http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/stella-mccartney-to-make-stellar-uniforms-for-2012-olympics#respond Fri, 23 Jul 2010 14:30:14 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=14540 On July 22, it was announced that British designer Stella McCartney will design the uniforms for the UK’s 2012 Olympic team. This is the first time such a well known designer has been granted the honor of designing for the Olympics. {The Daily Mirror} If her recently launched running line for Adidas is any indication, it should be a glowing display.

Stella joined forces with Adidas to design these vegan glow in the dark running gear.

Going for long runs during the lazy days of summer is one thing when the sun shines day and night (figuratively speaking). But what do you do if you’re a dedicated pavement pounder in the metro area when winter approaches and daylight dwindles? It is a pretty obvious idea that has never looked better. Targeted towards female runners, the range combines fashion, function, and practicality. Made from breathable polyester, the water-proof garments feature ruching, asymmetrical zippers, and a glow-in-the-dark leopard pattern to help make runners visible in the dark.

Stella McCartney commented on her new line of glow-in-the-darkness saying,  “Running is one of our most popular categories and for me to make it have its own point of view is really key. When you are running in an urban environment, you need to feel safe, when people can see you coming and stand out, especially in winter when it gets dark earlier…at the same time we used it on a leopard print, so it’s not so masculine and graphic.” {Stylelist}

With McCartney’s appointment, there is hope among the eco-conscious that she will try to work some environmentally friendly fabrics into her designs. {Ecouterre} Nike has already gotten their recycled PET fabrics out in the world of pro-sports by outfitting some of the World Cup teams. McCartney, as one of the most eco-friendly designers of renown, could help make these fabrics more ubiquitous by putting them into her designs for both athletes and souvenir-buying spectators. {TreeHugger} Either way, we look forward to seeing what Stella McCartney comes up with in 2 years time.

Venus Williams Can-Can Outfit and French Open Fashion http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/venus-williams-and-french-open-fashion http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/venus-williams-and-french-open-fashion#respond Mon, 24 May 2010 14:55:46 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=12209 If you’re following the startups of this year’s French Open tennis tournament, you’ll see some very different fashion trends on the Roland Garros red clay. Venus Williams’ French Open outfit was certainly the most provocative, but there are other trends in play during the grand slam as well.

Venus Williams' French Open 2010 outfit

Wardrobe malfunction? Don't worry, it's only an illusion

Roger Federer and Serena Williams in turquoise Nike outfits

The brighter the better seems to be the mantra for the top seeds at the Paris-based tournament this year: both Roger Federer and Serena Williams have turquoise-based outfits that are sponsored by Nike. Looks like Pantone was on the money about turquoise as this year’s ‘”it” color. Rafael Nadal has the same look, but with lime green and an even brighter shade of blue in there, too, creating an irregular geometric pattern. And why not be bold? He owns Roland Garros, having won four years in a row – he can wear whatever he wants!

Venus Williams however, is for once receiving the bulk of headlines for her Grand Slam outfit rather than her little sister (who has previously stolen style headlines in a catsuit-esque outfit). Her French Open outfit, designed by her own EleVen label, looked like something from the Moulin Rouge with corset styling in a black lace fabric with red detailing. She said she wanted to create a sense of illusion with her outfit. “It’s about kind of having that illusion of wearing lace and not having anything take away under it. These days I have a lot of fun with my designs,” she said. {Down the Line!} The illusion was definitely one that required a double take, as her flesh colored shorts probably left many viewers thinking they’d gotten more than an eyeful as the underwear inspired ensemble drew attention for more than her game winning serves.

There’s no correlation between winning and being the more stylish opponent in a match, but it is worth noting that Venus, Serena and Roger have won each of their respective opening tournaments so it can’t hurt.

After Roland Garros comes Wimbledon for these players, where only white is allowed to be worn. We can’t blame them for serving up those crazy colors before the more conservative style requirements come into play!

To Dye For http://198.46.88.49/mens-style/mens-shoes/to-dye-for http://198.46.88.49/mens-style/mens-shoes/to-dye-for#respond Thu, 29 Oct 2009 20:18:57 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=4641

It’s time to make some friends in Paris, pronto, because we’ve just taken a look at the new collaboration between Nike and Parisian dye house 180g, and our verdict is Absolutely 100% Droolworthy.

We love how much of a new look the colors give to the classic Nike models, with the slightly lived-in (yet still super-color-saturated) look of the sneakers being a huge plus.

The collection drops 5 November at 180g store on rue de Tournelles in Paris and we’re crossing our fingers that they will also be available online as soon as possible so our American boyfriends don’t feel so left out.
