Leaked Unedited Video for Monster by Kanye West featuring Rick Ross, Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj and Bon Iver

The unfinished video, which was removed shortly after being leaked on YouTube (wow, those take down notices move fast!), opens with Rick Ross sitting in a room with women hanging from the ceiling, then moves to West flashing his newly installed diamond covered teeth (just saying, the morning breath one would get from diamond covered teeth is probably a monster on its own) while being grabbed at by lots of red-nailed women. It then shifts to two dead women in bed, with West positioning them to put their arms around each other. One lady may have a future as a Law & Order extra, but another blinks, giving a sign of life that will probably be edited out in the final version. Jay-Z raps in front of a woman sprawled naked and (presumably) dead on a couch, and in the next scene the camera pans down to reveal Kanye West holding a woman’s severed head. In between there are zombie schoolgirls jumping rope, two women eating a dead waiter (one of the rare times in the video women are shown as the monsters) and hands struggling to break through doors, but the most interesting scene is the one where Nicki Minaj tortures herself. With a pink wigged Barbie version of herself tied up, dominatrix Nicki looms with a riding crop while her alter ego quips back.

Screencaps from the video below, if mirror upload is removed.

The final version will likely have sharper colors, additional effects and improved transitions, but somehow it feels like we’ve seen a lot of this before. If Eli Roth directed a “video editorial” for an America’s Next Top Model challenge, we’re guessing this would be the Tyra-unapproved result. There are certain elements that will cause controversy and provide shock value, but possibly because of the length (or lack thereof) they all feel gratuitous rather than creepy. Rihanna’s “Disturbia” pulled it off pretty well, Lady Gaga’s “Alejandro” video also, but “Monster” seems content to repeat the white contact covered eyes for zombie extras with added doses of misogynistic imagery and call it new. Controversial imagery aside – and it will certainly generate controversy – the greatest offense is how uninspired everything seems.

Love the song, but when it comes to the video we’ll look away.

Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday MAC Lipstick May Return In 2011 http://198.46.88.49/style/beauty/nicki-minajs-pink-friday-mac-lipstick-may-return-in-2011 http://198.46.88.49/style/beauty/nicki-minajs-pink-friday-mac-lipstick-may-return-in-2011#respond Tue, 28 Dec 2010 23:52:41 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=17528 Nicki Minaj’s debut album Pink Friday has been a sales success, with more than 650,000 albums sold in its first month out. The rapper’s debut product collaboration hasn’t been a slacker either.

Sold only on four Fridays starting with Black Friday, Minaj collaborated with MAC on a bright pink lipstick called Pink Friday that’s completely sold out.

Fans are still lining up for the shade, so it looks like MAC may bring the shade back for a few more Fridays, and a possible international expansion in terms of availability in 2011.

If you can’t wait for the restock, there’s a contest on Nicki Minaj’s website where fans can enter to win a tube. There are 5,000 pages of comments and 3 days left to enter though, so you’ll probably be better off waiting for the next available Friday.

Many have compared Minaj’s aesthetic to that of a hip-hop Lady Gaga, Lil’ Kim’s called style infringement on her colorful hair choices, but regardless of comparisons there are enough people following this Barbie girl’s style to indicate that lipstick is probably just the first step.

We’re not sure if the perfume or the star startup will come first, but it seems like Ms. Minaj is on course to pass Celebrity Brand Building 101 with flying colors (shades of pink, of course).

Drake and Nicki Minaj Are Married, but Only on Twitter http://198.46.88.49/living/drake-and-nicki-minaj-are-married-but-only-on-twitter http://198.46.88.49/living/drake-and-nicki-minaj-are-married-but-only-on-twitter#comments Sat, 28 Aug 2010 05:00:41 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=15536 This is why you shouldn’t take any relationship rumors seriously until there’s a Facebook status update to confirm.

Earlier today rappers Drake and Nicki Minaj sent fans into a tizzy looking for more information about a tweeted matrimonial announcement.

Drake tweeted:

“Please refer to @nickiminaj as Mrs. Aubrey Drake Graham and dont stare at her too long. She’s finally mine. :)”

to which Minaj replied by asking if her label mate was scared to make the announcement.

She retweeted his response and threw in faux confirmation:

“Yes, its true. Drake and I tied the knot. > RT @drakkardnoir @nickiminaj Baby I am never scared. PROUD is more the word I would use.”

With this tweet, I thee wed...

E! spoke to reps for both though, and both reps denied that the musicians were married. {E! Online} It may not be as subtle as Dr. Lyle Evans, but Drake and Minaj’s combined 2.2 million followers managed to push searches for more information into Google’s list of top trending searches in multiple positions.

In his song Miss Me, Drake raps “I love Nicki Minaj, I told her, I’d admit it; I hope one day we get married, just to say we f–king did it; And girl I’m f–king serious.”

Minaj has an album coming out in November, so while the buzz isn’t likely to last long enough to compel fans to purchase her album to find out if there’s any more truth to the romance rumors, there’s plenty of time for Twitter separations, reconciliations and even a divorce between now and then to keep the marketing magic alive.

Rihanna and Katy’s Primary Colored Hair: If Everyone Jumped… http://198.46.88.49/style/beauty/rihanna-and-katys-primary-hair-if-everyone-jumped http://198.46.88.49/style/beauty/rihanna-and-katys-primary-hair-if-everyone-jumped#respond Tue, 08 Jun 2010 01:48:47 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=12851 First it was pastel streaks that brought back memories of My Little Pony. Now, pop stars seem to be going full circle to bright, vibrant Manic Panic hues. Rihanna debuted a bright red bowl cut at a concert in Brazil, while buddy Katy Perry walked the MTV Movie Awards carpet with a royal blue Betty Page style.

At top, Lil' Kim's multi-colored hair from the Crush On You video (1997) and Nicki Minaj from a recent television appearance

And in a less friendly take on the style, Lil’ Kim, who made technicolor wigs popular with videos like Crush OnYou, has taken issue with rapper Nicki Minaj reviving the style without paying homage. {MTV}

So with technicolor hair making appearances at the top of the pop stars, and a possible war of the wigs brewing, would you give brighter hues a try this summer?
