New Store Opening – Signature9 http://198.46.88.49 Lifestyle Intelligence Sat, 13 Nov 2010 01:15:37 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.3.4 The Kardashians Take Soho: Fans Are Happy, Neighbors? Not So Much http://198.46.88.49/style/the-kardashians-take-soho-fans-are-happy-neighbors-not-so-much http://198.46.88.49/style/the-kardashians-take-soho-fans-are-happy-neighbors-not-so-much#respond Sat, 13 Nov 2010 01:10:50 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=16706 Recent W cover girl Kim Kardashian and her sisters Khloe and Kourtney are used to lights, camera and action surrounding their projects, but the crowds that came out for the opening of their New York Dash location were over the top for their new Soho neighbors.

Pretty sure this look isn't sold in store at Dash

Sean Sweeney, director of the Soho Alliance called the Kardashian fans “a generation of classless, tasteless, and clueless sheep” and blamed the sisters for “attempting to bring all that is wrong with Los Angeles to Soho.” {the Cut}

Well, we know one person who won’t be shopping at Dash.

Neighbors aren’t so upset by celebrities hanging out in the area – Mary Anne Cartelli, who lives across from the store notes that John Varvatos and other stores normally have celebrities in attendance at their openings. The Kardashian opening, however, didn’t include sufficient crowd control or security planning to make residents feel like the event was properly managed. She blamed the sisters for tweeting invitations to Twitter followers without actually making any plans for handling the throng of people who showed up without invitations. {the Villager} Indeed, when police arrived, there were arrests made for disorderly conduct.

While Sweeney’s comment is amusing, classless people aren’t exclusive to any city in particular. In spite of their lack of any discernible talent besides photo ops, we can’t knock the Kardashian sisters for using their 15 minutes to boost their business efforts. The opening probably could have been planned better, but at least in the medium term, the attention probably isn’t as bad for business as residents seem to think.

True Religion Crosses the Pond to Open in London this June http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/true-religion-crosses-the-pond-to-open-in-london-this-june http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/true-religion-crosses-the-pond-to-open-in-london-this-june#respond Wed, 17 Mar 2010 21:02:43 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=9888 True Religion has been a luxury denim brand in the United States for years, and now the Vernon, California-based company has plans to set up shop in London this June.

It seems to be long overdue since the company has been so successful here at home, but amid the recent global economic crisis that saw some brands fold completely, perhaps a wisely delayed venture. With future plans to make expansion in places like Tokyo and Toronto, the company’s quest for international growth is well on its way.

The new store locale is a 1,507 square-foot, freestanding building located in London’s Covent Garden district, and will offer collections for men, women and kids, also including denim, sportswear and handbags. {Shopping Blog}

“We are excited about our first branded retail store in the UK, as this marks a key milestone in the evolution of the True Religion brand to a global retail platform,” said Jeffrey Lubell, chairman, chief executive officer and chief merchant of True Religion Apparel, Inc. “With our Covent Garden store, we have a strong opportunity to build upon our brand’s success in London’s premier department stores and boutiques and further grow our brand’s presence.”

Further comments from the Brand’s President, Michael Buckley read, “We are evaluating our international opportunities on a market-by-market basis and look forward to achieving significant international growth.” {Denim Blog}

Covent Garden district is one of the busiest shopping and tourist destinations in the UK, and could be an ideal location for True Religion’s United Kingdom debut.  While the economy is still something of a mixed bag, clothing retailers in both the US and UK have been posting stronger than expected sales and showing signs of recovery.

Run by Joseph Wendt and Marisa Akson, the shop is well known to members of the NFL for sharply tailored made-to-measure suits. Custom shirts, jeans, European footwear and accessories for men round out the selection. Perhaps a sign of the fashion industry beginning to recover, Wendt attributes the success in rough economic times to a recession proof clientele. The Manhattan shop will open at 805 Third Avenue.
