Not your average suspenders

Apparently there exists – and has for quite some time now – a contraption that clips your shirt to your socks and is worn underneath pants to keep those pesky shirttails from popping out when you bend over or stand up after sitting. {The Cut} Armynavyshop sells these special suspenders, calling them Military Uniform Shirt Stays, in both clip-on and stirrup form. And theyâ€re cheap! The clip-on style runs for $5.31, whereas the stirrup version is $8.10.

T Magazine published news of these shirt garters after catching up with Maloney, who said he recommends them to other bartenders all the time.

“To explain how necessary I think they are, I will laugh and point at the shirt pooch that forms between the waist of the pants and the bottom of the vest of the guys who donâ€t wear them,” he said.

He did, however, also admit to several downsides to these internal suspenders, saying, “They are fussy and annoying. They detach and leak out your pant leg at the most inopportune time. If ratcheted too tight, you feel like a dandy Pinocchio, slightly drunk and walking on the moon. Worst of all, they get you singled out in security lines at the airport. To this day there hasnâ€t been a T.S.A. employee who hasnâ€t raised an eyebrow when I explain about the shirt garters.”

Well, Toby, you could always just secure an airport pasty to your private parts and head to one of the full-body scanners to avoid that last little problem.

We have to admit shirttail suspenders is a pretty practical – if obvious and silly – idea. We just wonder if it might get awkward in an intimate situation – like if, say, a woman were to wear Spanx or a chicken cutlet bra on a hot date. In any case, we’re interested to see if these man-garters turn out to be a full-blown trend.

J. Crew redressed

Impressed by head designer Frank Muytjens†“masculine, affordable, and modern” (pieces), in a recent story at GQ.com, Moore also commented on J.Crewâ€s styling: “Each guy exud[ed] a sense of great personal style.” Though a sidelong note, this is an area in which the company has really upped the ante in recent years.

Particularly haute is its Tribeca-based menâ€s location, the Liquor Store. Original bar intact within walls from 1825, the spot carries exclusives from designer collaborations (Belstaff, Leviâ€s and Ray-Ban have all partnered), as well as Borsalino hats, vintage Rolexes, old records and first-edition books (but no booze).

From the Crew we knew as a mail-order only catalogue on momâ€s coffee table (picture) to the British geek-chic, touch-of-grunge and piles-of-pearls (styling) of today, J.Crew looks to be successfully accomplishing an enviable appeal-expansion without isolating true-blue crew members. Weâ€re sold.

Take a peek at the new nerd-chic shades from Dita and Neighborhood, now available online at honeyee — but unfortunately for the Japanese domestic market only.  We hope these babies are available in the US sometime soon, because we would love to see these on our man paired with a perfectly worn-in button-down and a superhero smile.

Take cues from internet fashionistos and bolster your style with basics like slim-fit trousers (in denim, black, and more adventurous shades like cranberry), simple cardigans, and tailored button-down shirts, then throw in punchy accents like patterned ties and vintage-inspired specs.  Top it off with some swagger and you’re good to go.

If you like your kicks clean and classic, then Pony has you covered.  The new Collegiate Pack comes in prep-school-worthy shades of navy, cherry, black, and slate (all with crisp white accents) and features a slim profile that would look great with slim dark-wash jeans and a punchy button-down shirt.  Just leave the blazer and plaid tie at home.

Sneakerheads, listen up: Japanese-born premium sneaker shop Atmos has teamed up with old-school mainstay Reebok to release the Court Victory Pump, a bombshell of a throwback to the Reebok Pumps of the 1990s, fabricated in velour. Available in two tasty colors (purple or neon green, both with a bleach-wash look to them), these new-breed Pumps will be officially available November 14th.

You needn’t go whole-hog with the 90’s revival, although if that’s your thing then we won’t judge.  Think about pairing these kicks with some slim-cut dark-wash denim, so you can still rock out without being bogged down by too much acid-wash.
