Project Runway winner, Christian Siriano’s Spring/Summer collection hit the catwalk in unbelievable style. The “safari glam” clothes and enormous, draped evening gowns were stunners, but what really stole the show were the fierce footwear for the designer’s Payless collection.

The line was very demure, focusing on shades of red, cream and metallics. The silhouettes stood out with flowing maxi dresses, scalloped chartreuse, sleek white pants and belted mini dresses all- paired with chunky accessories.

The shoes were a spectacle all their own with varying geometric shapes, cutouts, straps and ties. In the past we have seen how adventurous Siriano can be with designing high heels, and this year was no different. The spiky, rounded and contorted designs are unique, yet feminine and classy. {Le Petite Fashionista}

There was some mixed reaction as the show’s attendees carefully examined each look.

Fashionista commented, “The problem with Siriano’s SS11 collection is that it’s caught in limbo between wearable and editorial looks. While the sportswear felt like a tribute to tried and true vacation-wear (slim white pants, leather short trenches, voluminous maxi-dresses, lone ruffles, and exotic prints) his sumptuous evening wear is a unique offering…At this point in his career, Siriano needs to choose a team and stick with it—I say drama all the way.” {Racked}

We agree that a lot of what we saw on the runway was theatrical and extravagant and not necessarily  practical for wear. The shoes in particular, although designed for Payless, will probably be heavily toned down by the time we see them hit store shelves. Either way, we will be the first in line to snag his sleek styles at a steal of a price.

NYC Subway Map Gets a Makeover: More Manhattan, Fewer Lines http://198.46.88.49/living/travel/nyc-subway-gets-a-makeover-more-manhattan-fewer-lines http://198.46.88.49/living/travel/nyc-subway-gets-a-makeover-more-manhattan-fewer-lines#respond Mon, 31 May 2010 18:39:39 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=12535

After decades of confusion from tourists and natives alike over the New York City subway system, the Metropolitan Transport Authority is finally overhauling the out-of-date system. Changes to current lines and maps will simplify the system, allowing customers to more easily understand the system.

At the end of June, the changeover to the new system will become official. Gone are the V and W lines, replaced by a rerouted M line. Some lines, like the Q have been extended. The Q will now terminate in Queens instead of Manhattan. All of these changes are noted on a new map. Similar to the old map in most respects, the new map has Manhattan enlarged by 30% to allow  more detail in the spiderweb of lines. Where does that extra space come from? Poor Staten Island which will find its place on the map a bit smaller. {Gawker} In addition, superfluous information has been eliminated from the map in order to provide a clearer picture of the system. New information will be added to denote crucial information, like which stops are handicap accessible from street level.

While the makeover will be beneficial for the majority of users, the city will spend nearly $800,000. With the renovation of lines, about 3,000 signs must be replaced and decals switched out. “A small vinyl M decal, newly orange, may cost the agency about $25 to produce.” {NY Times} Larger, porcelain signs run about $300 a pop. In addition, porcelain signs will not be installed until later due to production length, so temporary aluminum signs will be placed instead.

The MTA is planning to most of the switch out the weekend before June 28th, the Monday that everything is due to be revealed. Most major Manhattan stations will not see signs changed until a few hours before the big reveal, in order to minimize confusion.

25,000 maps will also be replaced. Maps inside train cars will be stripped down to simplify reading them from across the car.

Whether these changes actually help in understanding the NYC subway system will only be known after the changeover.

You’re Invited: Target Hosts All-Night Fashion Party with Zac Posen http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/youre-invited-target-hosts-all-night-fashion-party-with-zac-posen http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/youre-invited-target-hosts-all-night-fashion-party-with-zac-posen#respond Fri, 16 Apr 2010 08:15:28 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=10443
If you love fashion like we do you know how rare it is (unless you’re a celebrity or something) to get a sneak peek or a chance to buy your favorite designer labels before the collection is fully released to the public. Well, if you’re in Manhattan right now you have until 11pm tonight to do just that. Go on early bird, you’ll probably get the best selection if you start shopping while everyone else is sleeping.

Zac Posen has released another runway-inspired line for Target, after a hugely successful previous release, which will debut April 26th. The anticipation must be too much to bear because Target is launching its first-ever 24-hour shopping party-complete with designer Zac Posen himself.

The whimsical and fantasy-filled collection spans the spectrum of femininity to androgyny. Women’s suits and long floral gowns are indicative of what you should expect to see a full 10 hours before the line goes public. There are plenty of brights and floral prints to keep in line with the more upbeat feel of clothing this spring that’s lifting spirits and sales.

We love the idea of an all-night party, and adding shopping to the mix is an all-around dream come true. We can’t wait to get our hands on some of the goods. If you need an inspiration, here are a few of the looks we’d line up to buy. Don’t miss out on this one-time event, see you there!

The RSVPs for Fashion Meets Finance Are Rolling In, We’re Rolling Over Laughing http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/the-rsvps-for-fashion-meets-finance-are-rolling-in-were-rolling-over-laughing http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/the-rsvps-for-fashion-meets-finance-are-rolling-in-were-rolling-over-laughing#respond Wed, 31 Mar 2010 02:52:46 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=10082 Are you a stereotypical fashionista in need of a rich boyfriend to support your shopping habit? Or perhaps a trader who can’t get a second look without dropping your annual bonus into the conversation? If you’re in Manhattan on April 8th, you’re in luck! Fashion Meets Finance will be hosting a spring soiree at the Empire Hotel (fresh off its staring role in Gossip Girl).

If the premise isn’t enough to get a laugh out of you, perhaps the guest list will. To say it’s notoriously unreliable would be an understatement, but the names speak for themselves.

Run by Joseph Wendt and Marisa Akson, the shop is well known to members of the NFL for sharply tailored made-to-measure suits. Custom shirts, jeans, European footwear and accessories for men round out the selection. Perhaps a sign of the fashion industry beginning to recover, Wendt attributes the success in rough economic times to a recession proof clientele. The Manhattan shop will open at 805 Third Avenue.
