Heather Morris, who plays the delightfully ditzy Brittany S. Pierce on Glee, is the new brand ambassador for Flirt, Estee Lauder’s cosmetics line targeted at teens. {Elle}

Previous ambassadors have included tennis star Serena Williams, and actress Mila Kunis. The job duties don’t include print ads, but Morris will host online contests and make store appearances to promote the line, which is sold exclusively at Kohl’s.

Admittedly, she’s not the first Glee star we thought we’d see repping products without a character tie-in or supporting stars, but the former dancer (who still looks pretty great when given the opportunity to make a move on the show) has made her cheerleader character so likable that Brittany S. Pierce was upgraded from occasional bit player to series regular.

Update: Commenters have pointed out that Lea Michele’s Dove commercial where she sings “My Favorite Things” could fall under the endorsement umbrella, so a little clarification. We’ll let you make the call, but the Dove campaign was part of a heavy tie-in with Glee (of which Lea is obviously the star), while the Flirt brand ambassadorship seems to be focused on Morris, without a tie-in to the series. Corey Monteith and Dianna Agron are part of an ensemble Op-brand campaign which also includes singer Cassie, Gossip Girl’s Jessica Szohr and Trevor Donovan from 90210. Morris seems to be the first to land a solo campaign not tied to Glee, title updated to reflect that.

Proud Gleek? Celebrate the Emmy Nods With Macy’s New Glee Clothing Line http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/proud-gleek-celebrate-the-emmy-nods-with-macys-new-glee-clothing-line http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/proud-gleek-celebrate-the-emmy-nods-with-macys-new-glee-clothing-line#comments Fri, 09 Jul 2010 13:47:07 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=13901 The new hit Fox television show Glee is the most talked about and first-of-its-kind musical show to hit the airwaves. Yesterday, the show picked up a huge 19 Emmy nominations including Best Comedy Series,  Best Actor in a Comedy Series for Matthew Morrison, and Best Actress in a Comedy Series for Lea Michelle.

If you haven’t seen an episode or two yourself, the series capitalizes on the virtually untapped musical theater television market.

With all of the buzz surrounding Glee, Macy’s wasted no time collaborating on the overnight sensation to create a new clothing line. Macy’s has been really stepping up the collaborations recently with Madonna’s Material Girl line, and while Gleeks may not be as rabid as Twilight’s Twihards, the line is surely a smart move to further draw in a younger audience.  The screen-printed tee-shirts and hoodies range in price from $19.99 to $34.99 and will hit shelves this August. {Stylelist}

While the line is part of Macy’s push to up the cool factor with high school and college shoppers, Emma Pillsbury has picked up a few style fans who enjoy the J.Crew-esque bow blouses, cardigans and pencil skirts the fictional counselor wears. There’s even a blog – What Would Emma Pillsbury Wear?, that pits episode style choices against one another. With more than 1200 Facebook fans, perhaps we’ll even get some inspired womenswear pieces in the future.

Even if it’s only tees for now, the Emmys will be broadcast August 29th and the show returns in September. The timing for a bit of fan fashion couldn’t be better.

Lady Gaga and Kiss to Join “Glee” Repertoire http://198.46.88.49/living/lady-gaga-and-kiss-to-join-glee-repertoire http://198.46.88.49/living/lady-gaga-and-kiss-to-join-glee-repertoire#comments Fri, 21 May 2010 17:17:21 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=12015

Any Gleek (a lover of the hit Fox series, “Glee”) that watched the most recent episode knows that the show is slated to premiere a Lady Gaga episode next Tuesday. Following the success of the “Power of Madonna” episode a month ago, it was only natural that the writers should go to another iconic and influential pop star. While Lady Gaga’s success is relatively recent (compared to the likes of Madonna, whose career began in 1983), she has quickly risen as an avant-garde figure in music and fashion.

The musical dramedy is known for its renditions of both timeless classics and current chart-toppers. The hit show seems to only keep growing, attracting guest stars like Kristin Chenoweth, Neil Patrick Harris, Jonathan Groff, and Idina Menzel. With the show’s rise in popularity, many artists have begun to offer their music for discounted licensing fees or even gratis. Along with vivid characters and heart-wrenching musical numbers, the offer of gratis music cements “Glee” as a television icon. The show’s use of diverse music and characters appeals to a wide audience, and the musical element allows audience members to experience theatricality without having to pay extra money for a theatre ticket.

Lady Gaga’s entrance into the “Glee” world is somewhat different from those of her contemporary peers. Like Madonna, Lady Gaga is having an episode, called “Theatricality”, dedicated to her music and style choices. However, unlike Madonna, Gaga’s influence must compete with the “Glee” men’s equivalent of Lady Gaga: Kiss. Both Gaga and Kiss are behind the idea of “Theatricality” for the episode, and the two artists’ involvement in the episode spurs on a competition that is as old as time: boys versus girls.

We’ve seen the boys versus girls theme before in “Glee”, but could the addition of two iconic artists provide a new perspective on the age-old question of who’s better? We wait with bated breath to find out.
