On September 20th, auction house Philips de Pury will offer 22 Swarovski crystal adorned black dresses, with all proceeds going to benefit the American Cancer Society and La Ligue Contre le Cancer in France.

The American Heart Association has been pretty successful in raising awareness for women’s heart health with their red dress campaign. The black dress is a fashion staple for most women, so hopefully we’ll see the effort at tying it to cancer awareness and research extend even further down the fashion chain. The 22 dresses up for auction are beyond beautiful, and with any luck, a high street (mass retail, if you’re not used to the British term) chain will take a cue from the high end and find a way to incorporate this into a future designer collaboration.

Participating designers and labels include Donna Karan, Giorgio Armani, Valentino, Lanvin, Jean Paul Gaultier, Givenchy, Vivienne Westwood, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Alexis Mabille, Missoni, Marios Schwab and Diane von Furstenberg among others. The full list is available at Swarovski elements, view a gallery of our 10 favorite dresses below.

Martyn Bal’s Fall 2010 Menswear Collection Follows Suit http://198.46.88.49/mens-style/mens-clothing/martyn-bals-fall-2010-menswear-collection-follows-suit http://198.46.88.49/mens-style/mens-clothing/martyn-bals-fall-2010-menswear-collection-follows-suit#respond Fri, 12 Feb 2010 22:10:53 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=9397 It seems that there is a lot more muscle going into menswear these days, and we’re not sure if it’s the staggering economy or the competition that’s causing the heat in the once second-tier market. The new collection in menswear from Martyn Bal {Swipelife} features styles similar to what we are seeing in other fall 2010 lineups. The use of  contrasting colors, leathers and wools, skinny trousers and heavy layering define this season of menswear.

The deep color palates of black, navy and gray are solid themes running throughout, accented by pops of color. Marked by double-breasted suits, vests and slim silhouettes, the most current designer collections walking the runway for men, from DKNY,  Prada {NY Magazine}, Gianfranco Ferre {Coutorture} and Marc Jacobs {GQ} all seem to be taking pages from the same book.
