A new “Celebrity” feature on the avant-garde fashion Web site NotJustALabel.com was launched Wednesday to direct fans of stars with outlandish fashion taste to the designers who created their outfits’ online retail collections. {The Cut} Much the same way you can score an outfit straight off the set of a television show at SeenOn’s site, fans can find costumes worn by Fergie and Rhianna in addition to Gaga for their own closets.

You can find looks from Jayne Pierson and Tokyo-based designer Yuima Nakazato, who has dressed Fergie for the Black Eyed Peas tour as well as items worn on and off stage by Estelle, Elly of La Roux and Rhianna. In addition, London’s Piers Atkinson and futuristic womenswear designer Gemma Slack, both of whom have dressed Lady Gaga, are featured on the site. {Grazia UK}

NJAL also now directs celebrity fashion fans to more wearable designs worn by stars like Mila Jovovich, Katie Holmes, Alice Dellal, Elle Macpherson and Lily Cole. {Grazia UK}

Shopping on NJAL is much easier than trying to make a DIY, Gaga-like Philip Treacy lobster hat or Jean-Charles de Castelbajac Kermit The Frog coat, but be prepared to drop a few doubloons for any of these fashions. Most designs start at approximately $500, and many of the designers are marked “high end.” For a piece of your favorite celebrity, superfans may find it a small price to pay for their own piece of famous style.

Recessionista Hair Color Reaches for the Stars http://198.46.88.49/style/beauty/recessionista-hair-color-reaches-for-the-stars http://198.46.88.49/style/beauty/recessionista-hair-color-reaches-for-the-stars#respond Thu, 01 Jul 2010 00:02:01 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=13562 You’ve probably seen it before, a bottle blonde with telltale roots indicating she’s been too busy to keep up with her hair color. The resulting halo of dark color has long been taboo due to an affiliation between poor hair color upkeep and a poor income. But a revolution over the past year has begun a recession proof hair trend.

For a long time, stars and their stylists have been a source of techniques to hide bad hair days, poor haircuts, and hair that is a little too dirty. Now there is a new trick to disguise those roots that have grown out just a bit too much…say it’s deliberate!! Cited as “ombré” hair color, the look can be achieved by both experienced and novice hair color users alike. Stars like Shenae Grimes, Erin Wasson, Alexa Chung, Lauren Conrad, Fergie, and many others have already adopted the style for it’s low maintenance and carefree look.

For those of us who already lighten our hair even a bit, the process is simple: let your hair grow out! You might want to enhance the effect a little while your hair grows by lightening the ends slightly. Lauren Conrad took it to extremes and bleached the ends of her hair, creating a gradation from a light brown to a baby blonde at the ends. For those with virgin hair or who want to achieve the look on color-enhanced hair, schedule an appointment with a colorist and ask for highlights beginning around ear length in order to achieve the desired gradation. The highlights should be a little staggered in order to make the color appear more natural.

Regardless of how you decide to achieve the look, you have to preserve the integrity of the colored hair so that the transition from natural color to processed color is seamless. Cleansing your hair should be done with a shampoo for colored hair, which are gentler upon fragile processed strands. Conditioning should be done with a rich, moisturizing conditioner with extra saturation towards the ends, where hair is driest. A restorative masque should also be used upon processed hair once a week to replace any moisture that is lost between conditionings. In addition, try to refrain from brushing hair when wet (a wide tooth comb is advised instead) and brush with a natural boar bristle brush, which is gentler upon strands and distributes natural oils more evenly. While this may seem like a lot, these simple steps will keep your new color silky and beautiful. {WhoWhatWear}

Our Favorite Denim Trend? Bleached and Battered http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/bleached-skinny-jeans-trend http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/bleached-skinny-jeans-trend#respond Wed, 10 Feb 2010 16:31:09 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=9283 Celebrities everywhere have been spied sporting this hot trend in denim everywhere-and luckily for us it’s a style we can all pull off if done right. Some favorites include Paige Premium’s custom-designed pair for Ashley Tisdale {Denim Blog}, the version seen on Victoria Beckham from Balmain {Denimology} retailing at around $2000, and Fergie’s dark blue and white wash by {Denim Therapy}. The basic colorwaves let you mix and match tops- which should remain solid in color, with minimal frills.

Designers from every angle are taking this trend for a ride. Luxury brands like Balmain and more commercial names like J Brand, 7 For All Mankind, Citizens of Humanity and Diesel are putting their own spin on what looks  like a major ongoing trend.

The effortless, chic style this abstract art achieves makes this seem like a trend not set to expire anytime soon.

Our personal recommendation? The J Brand “Cult” skinnys in gray and white are super comfortable and the detail is not tacky or splotchy. The high waist in the back keeps them from falling down or riding up as you walk, and was a favorite gift this Christmas (thanks mom!).

Avon Gets Fergalicious http://198.46.88.49/style/beauty/avon-gets-fergalicious http://198.46.88.49/style/beauty/avon-gets-fergalicious#respond Sat, 17 Oct 2009 00:44:58 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=3126 Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie is the latest high-profile name to be added to Avon’s long list of celebrity fragrance endorsers.

When compared to previous celebrity collaborators like Jennifer Hudson and Reese Witherspoon, Fergie may seem like an odd choice — but Avon sees in her a confident, vibrant, successful woman who has the power to inspire others to be fearless, strong, and sure of themselves.

The Avon brand stresses the importance of female self-awareness, and although we realize Fergie (and all the other celebrity names) have been brought on primarily to increase profit margins, we’re willing to take any positive messages we can get.
