The Poise brand has chosen reality star Kris Kardashian to participate in their “Great Women in History” series expected to launch this year. The series highlights the fact that many great women throughout history have suffered from a common condition called LBL or Light Bladder Leakage. Jenner admits to her own struggles with LBL, which will affect 1 in 3 women and was inspired by Whoopi Goldberg’s work with the brand. In honor of Women’s History Month in March, Kris portrayed Rosie the Riveter, an American cultural icon.

The representation is meant to symbolize the millions of women who deal with LBL who Jenner says she relates to. “Like millions of women, I have my own experiences with LBL, but I’ve never let it keep me from living life to the fullest,” Jenner stated. “Inspired by the impact that last year’s ‘Great Women in History’ series had on women with LBL, I’ve teamed up with the Poise brand to help women understand that LBL is common and manageable, so it shouldn’t stop them from doing great things and being the incredible and accomplished women they are.”

Poise and Kris are inviting women to leave their own mark on history by visiting 1in3likeme.com to write a caption for Kris’s Rosie photograph that tells the LBL story from Rosie the Riveter’s perspective by sharing their personal stories. Additionally, for every woman that participates, $1 will be donated to the Women’s Health Foundation, an organization committed to championing women’s pelvic health issues. Each woman that submits a caption will automatically be entered for a chance to win a trip to a destination featured in the “Great Women in History” series and have her LBL tagline featured with the photo on www.mydaily.com/1in3. {Drug Store News}

Admittedly, this isn’t the first campaign that would come to mind when thinking of which product Jenner might endorse next, but we applaud her candor on a topic that’s not sexy or along the lines of normal brand Kardashian products.

Just in stock for the busiest season of the year is the result of the brand’s most recent partnership with the United Nations World Food Program.

Beginning today you can find an array of these colorful, beaded $5 bracelets that are hand-made in Guatemala. The trendy wrist wear is part of Forever 21’s charitable participation in helping world hunger.

Children from all over the world go to bed hungry every night and Forever 21 knows they can help. Angelina Jolie Boards the Celebrity Design Train http://198.46.88.49/style/jewelry/angelina-jolie-boards-the-celebrity-design-train http://198.46.88.49/style/jewelry/angelina-jolie-boards-the-celebrity-design-train#respond Tue, 07 Dec 2010 21:02:06 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=17139 United Nations Goodwill Ambassador and A-list Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie is jumping on the celeb fashion designer bandwagon with her new line of jewelry.

On the red carpet at the premiere for her spy drama Salt, the actress can be seen wearing some the first pieces in the collection.

Collaborating with former Asprey CEO, Robert Procop, (whose decade-long design experience will serve as a backbone for Angie’s collection) the design duo will showcase classic jeweled pieces that Angelina will most likely wear herself. {FabSugar}

The exclusive collection won’t be sold traditionally in retail stores like most celebrity designs, however. Instead, her pieces will be sold through Procop’s clients with all of the proceeds going directly to Angelina’s charity, the Education Partnership of Children in Crisis.

It will be interesting to see how a collection from Angelina does. Though her photos regularly command millions – a gift passed along to her children – her stint as an ambassador for St. John wasn’t seen as being the best fit. With what we assume will be more input in the design process this time, maybe a more personal involvement will make a difference. Brand ambassadorships aside, Jolie’s woven a good dose of humanitarian roles into her bad-ass roles, and it’s nice to see her star power (doesn’t that always include a design stint?) directed to causes close to her heart.

Housing Works Fall Preview: Thrift Shop Fashion For Charity http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/housing-works-fall-preview-thrift-shop-fashion-for-charity http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/housing-works-fall-preview-thrift-shop-fashion-for-charity#respond Thu, 26 Aug 2010 20:26:59 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=15475 If you love fashion, thrifty finds and helping a charitable cause, they all go hand in hand at Housing Works. The place is an absolute haven for vintage and designer clothes, accessories, shoes, art, books, furniture and home goods. If that weren’t reason enough to love it, all of the proceeds from the deeply discounted deals go towards helping those who are homeless and living with HIV and AIDS.

A Louis Vuitton Damier print bag, currently being auctioned for Housing Works. Current bid: $241

The influx of new merchandise is endless and the selection, divine. If you have the time to sort through everything it’s almost impossible to leave empty-handed.

The majority of the clothing is $10 or less and we’ve seen some great pieces from H&M, the Gap and Lord & Taylor – not to mention the higher end brands like Marc Jacobs and Yves Saint Laurent that often make their way to the shop. You can sometimes luck up on eBay or at your run of the mill thrift store, but where else are you going to find a $28 Burberry sport coat in mint condition? No, we didn’t miss any zeros there.

Chatting with one of the chain’s coordinators who runs the shop on 90th street and 2nd avenue, we learned that items donated are sometimes rare and invaluable (think antique, genuine ivory elephant tusks), and the window displays are where the bid-only items are displayed. Window shopping and see something you like? Log on to shophousingworks.com to bid on your item of choice for a steal of a price.

If you haven’t had a chance to peruse the shelves yet, now is the time. The annual Fall Preview Sale is kicking off September 8th at the Chelsea store, and rolls on to each of the store’s New York locations through the 30th. {The Cut} ShopHousingWorks.com gets its own day on September 15th, so those outside of New York can still get in on the action.

Thrift shopping can be an adventure of its own and knowing it helps benefit a worthy cause makes the experience that much richer. Take a look for yourself and see just how awesome Housing Works is. Happy Hunting!

Fashion Forward Steps in the Right Direction with Nine West’s Runway Relief Charity Event http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/fashion-forward-steps-in-the-right-direction-with-nine-wests-runway-relief-charity-event http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/fashion-forward-steps-in-the-right-direction-with-nine-wests-runway-relief-charity-event#respond Tue, 24 Aug 2010 21:42:58 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=15388 Breast cancer is an issue of vital importance among women, fashion’s largest consumer group. Since 1994 Fashion Targets Breast Cancer (FTBC) has been the most successful response from the fashion community designed to raise public awareness about the importance of breast cancer research, education, screening and patient care. {FTBC}

The Council of Fashion Designers of America/CFDA Foundation, Inc. promotes and supports the cause and others in the industry have partnered with the FTBC initiative like Net-A-Porter, Calvin Klein, Saks, QVC, Elson & Company and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation.

When we learned about this year’s plans we thought it was an innovative and unique idea for this very significant cause. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2011, September 9-16, 2010 in New York City will kick off and Nine West has joined the relief effort, partnering with Omron, the CFDA, Sony, Marilyn, IMG Models and Elite Model Management in raising funds this year. The interesting part though is not just the awesome Nine West runway show, but  the entire week’s worth of festivities during Fashion Week that the models experience.

“The models will don a limited-edition pair of Runway Relief boots, equipped with an Omron GOSmart Pocket Pedometer, to track each model’s steps as she runs between castings, fittings and fabulous parties throughout the week. For every step she takes, a donation will be made to Fashion Targets Breast Cancer. Nigel Barker will host the program on August 31st with a photo shoot of the participating models in an iconic New York location, and you can catch the live stream on Nine West’s Facebook page or on www.modelinia.com.” {Fashion Pulse Daily}

If you love the boots they will be available to the public on August 31st for $199. Nothing beats great fashion and helping a worthy cause.

Forget Ringling Brothers, Fashion’s Night Out Promises the Greatest (Runway) Show on Earth http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/forget-ringling-brothers-fashions-night-out-promises-the-greatest-runway-show-on-earth http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/forget-ringling-brothers-fashions-night-out-promises-the-greatest-runway-show-on-earth#respond Fri, 23 Apr 2010 12:00:20 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=10521 We previously reported the overwhelming success of New York’s Fashion’s Night Out (and London’s and Paris’ Fashion Celebration Night), and this year doesn’t seem likely to disappoint.

American Vogue, which produced the event, is proud to claim their next show slated for September 7, 2010 at Lincoln Center in NYC. It will officially snag the title of the biggest fashion show in New York’s history. Perhaps Anna should get someone from the Guiness World Book of Records on the phone – a world record never hurt, and we’re sure the record takers would rather count models than some guy’s long toenails.

With over 200 models  helping in the effort to breathe life into the fashion industry and donate to a worthy cause (part of the proceeds go to the New York AIDS fund), this event is ultimately geared towards stimulating the industry and getting consumers excited about shopping. Three days later, on September 10th, the official shopping event will be held where a new Fashion’s Night Out clothing line is said to be released.

“We felt it is important for people see what wonderful fashion will be in stores at that moment. This show will focus on the key trends we’ve identified for Fall so that shoppers will have plenty of inspiration to join the fun during Fashion’s Night Out,” says Anna Wintour, editor in chief of Vogue Magazine. {Stylelist}

The twist to the show that we love is that the 200 models will represent 200 looks from this fall’s hottest trends. Instead of focusing on individual designers, the catwalk will serve as a live lookbook for the 1500 lucky attendees.

Bloggers Help Haiti http://198.46.88.49/living/bloggers-help-haiti http://198.46.88.49/living/bloggers-help-haiti#respond Fri, 15 Jan 2010 00:13:57 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=8770 haitiWith updates on an increasingly unimaginable death toll in Haiti coming in hourly, Americans – including some of our favorite bloggers – are making it easier for you to find ways to help.

Of course, donations to charitable organizations are desperately needed – but if you can find it in your heart to open your pocketbook even a little wider, there are many ways to give more and get a little something in return.

SFGirlbythebay is donating $5 from every purchase (including some fabulous Keep Calm & Carry On Posters) on her Etsy site to Haiti; AphroChic and StyleTure have joined 13 other bloggers in a Bloggers Day of Action for Haiti and are auctioning off some great design pieces with full proceeds going to either the Red Cross, UNICEF, or Yele Haiti; and Fashion Philanthropy is offering 100% of its profits to Haiti.

So, if you’re a reader – keep tweeting, keep texting, and get buying! If you’re a blogger – keep posting (and add a banner to a charity – like this one for the World Food Programme – to your site)!

The least we all can do is spread awareness and give what we can to the people of Haiti at this devastating time.

Jessie Randall has a shoe collection to die for: every pair is perfect because she designed them all herself. Loeffler Randall, a collaboration between Randall and her husband, started in footwear and quickly expanded to apparel. Her designs are chic, edgy and sexy with a modern take that go from season to season. Fashion isn’t Randall’s only passion as donations from her collection go to Living India, an organization to help AIDS affected children in India. Good style for a good cause? We like the sound of that.
