After her untimely death at the age of 27, the future of Winehouse’s fashion label with Fred Perry was uncertain. Her father and a Fred Perry representative have both confirmed that the collection – which had reportedly been finished well before the singer’s death – will appear in stores for Fall 2011 and Spring 2012.

Mitch Winehouse, Amy’s father, said in a statement: “When Fred Perry came to us to ask what we would like to do with the new collection it was natural to continue. Amy loved working on both collections and would want them to be made available. All the money we make and the donation that Fred Perry will give will go straight into to the Amy Winehouse Foundation which we are setting up to help children and young people in her name.” {the Telegraph}

Fred Perry will give a seasonal donation to the foundation, in addition to profits from sales of the line which would have gone to Winehouse.

Amy Winehouse Dead At 27 http://198.46.88.49/living/amy-winehouse-dead-at-27 http://198.46.88.49/living/amy-winehouse-dead-at-27#respond Sat, 23 Jul 2011 18:09:31 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=20666

The BBC is reporting that Amy Winehouse, famous as much for her problems with drinking and drugs as her music and fashion hits, has died at the age of 27. The cause of death is still being reported as undetermined, but Winehouse recently cancelled a number of appearances after visible signs of alcoholism, and was previously warned that her drug use could lead to death.

Winehouse received critical acclaim even prior to Frank, her 2003 debut album. Initially signed by former Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller’s 19 Management, Winehouse’s smoky vocals and jazz infused songs led to interest from multiple record labels. Her second album, Back to Black, was released in October 2006 and spawned hits like “You Know I’m No Good” and “Rehab,” the latter dubbed the Best Song of 2007 by Time.  The album topped music charts in the US and UK and earned 5 Grammy awards for Winehouse – a first for a British singer. A fan following quickly developed around Winehouse both for her retro pop music and appearance.

The Amy Winehouse Style Influence

Following the success of Back to Black, Winehouse’s haphazard beehive and exaggerated cat-eye eyeliner became as identifiable as her songs. Her ’60s styling made her a muse to Karl Lagerfeld, who sent models down the Chanel runway and into advertisements with messy, upswept hair and winged liner that immediately brought to mind the image of the singer. Not to be outdone, Louis Vuitton paid $1 million for Winehouse to perform at their fashion show during Paris Fashion Week in March 2008.

Multiple trips to rehab facilities and ongoing battles with alcohol and drugs gradually killed hopes for a new studio album, but Winehouse still managed to release a collection for UK sportswear label Fred Perry in 2010. A beauty line that was to include hairspray, head scarves and black eyeliner never materialized.

The singer’s death also places her among a different group of icons: entertainers who didn’t make it to their 28th birthday.

Winehouse now has the unfortunate honor of joining Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain, and Jean-Michel Basquiat in the list of influential musicians and artists who died at 27.

Amy Winehouse Reveals New Fashion Collection http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/amy-winehouse-reveals-new-fashion-collection http://198.46.88.49/style/fashion/amy-winehouse-reveals-new-fashion-collection#respond Thu, 11 Mar 2010 19:13:12 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=9810 Amy Winehouse has had her fair share of troubles over the past few years. Speculated to have spent time in and out of rehab, she is back- but not with her next Grammy-winning record.

It’s been confirmed that Winehouse has collaborated on a new 17-piece  fashion collection for British sportswear designer Fred Perry, expected to be released in October.

Marketing Director for Fred Perry, Richard Martin stated, “We had three major design meetings where she was closely involved in product style selection and the application of fabric, color and styling details…pieces such as gingham shirts and the Heritage jacket, another label classic, are the foundation of the lineup. On those items, “Amy gave crucial input on proportion, color and fit,” Martin said. “The range clearly has Amy’s handwriting.” {The Cut}

How many people actually want to emulate the messy, grunge look Amy is often seen in? Sure, there may be some fashion sense lurking beneath the surface, but the “this shirt hasn’t been washed in months!” look is one we could do without. Managing director for Fred Perry, John Flynn, added “We have had a great relationship with her over the years as she has been a loyal fan and supporter. Amy’s sense of style and attitude to music and fashion pervades through this collaboration. We hope her fans and our fans will feel the same way.”

We have also been hearing rumors that Amy is taking on a beauty venture, supposedly creating a new line of  makeup. Her popularity in London, especially her signature beehive hairdo and heavy-handed eyeliner, have inspired trends in past seasons (famously, as Karl Lagerfeld’s muse for a season at Chanel). The line could include items like hairspray, headscarves,  liquid eyeliner and perfume.
