Microsoft Kin is Done Less Than 2 Months After Launching

Microsoft Kin is Done Less Than 2 Months After Launching thumbnail

Microsoft hasn’t had much luck with it’s social-centric semi-smartphone platform, Kin. Now it looks like that misfortune has finally caught up with the software juggernaut. Until now, Microsoft had planned to launch the Kin platform in Europe in the Fall of 2010, right around the time when Windows Phone 7 would likely be hitting.

Now Microsoft has announced that Kin will not be coming to Europe, and that it will be moving those who are still on the Kin team to the Windows Phone 7 team, which would hopefully brings some of Kin to the new smartphone platform. Microsoft will still continue selling the Kin One and Two with Verizon, but it doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing it on any other carriers any time soon, as in not ever.

Recessionista Hair Color Reaches for the Stars

Recessionista Hair Color Reaches for the Stars thumbnail

You’ve probably seen it before, a bottle blonde with telltale roots indicating she’s been too busy to keep up with her hair color. The resulting halo of dark color has long been taboo due to an affiliation between poor hair color upkeep and a poor income. But a revolution over the past year has begun a recession proof hair trend.

Verizon iPhone Rumors Heat Up: When the Move is Anticipated, and Who May Want to Stick to AT&T

Verizon iPhone Rumors Heat Up: When the Move is Anticipated, and Who May Want to Stick to AT&T thumbnail

The Verizon iPhone is a reality, and will be available in January 2011. That’s the rumor, at least, according to two unnamed sources in a report on Bloomberg. While AT&T has declined to comment on the murmurs, a Verizon iPhone would be attractive to many people who may be weary of enduring AT&T’s network problems.

Now unless a manufacturing change is planned, you’d still have to learn how to hold your iPhone 4 (really, why should a phone require more instruction than most newborns come with?) in that special way that doesn’t kill reception due to the poor antenna placement. But assuming Apple loosens their stance on free bumpers, or that the Help Wanted postings for antenna developers produces an actual fix instead of denials of the problem, there’s still an issue.

Bottoms Up: Designer Diapers are Coming to a Target Near You

Bottoms Up: Designer Diapers are Coming to a Target Near You thumbnail

When Huggies launched their line of denim diapers, complete with catwalking (or should that be kittenwalking?) toddlers, we thought it was the natural progression/regression of the designer collaboration trend.

Pampers and Cynthia Rowley recently announced a collaboration that’s scheduled to hit Target in mid-July of this year. We’ve seen the rise in popularity of pantlessness for adults. It only seems fair that the under 2 crowd – really the only ones who should try the look if not performing in concert, now has a wider array of style options when running around in their undies.

Dove’s “Real Beauty” Ads May Need to Get Real

Dove’s “Real Beauty” Ads May Need to Get Real thumbnail

An ad soliciting perfect-looking women to model for Dove’s next “Real Beauty” campaign appeared on Craigslist last Friday. At the time the ad was posted, it seemed to have revealed that all Dove actually meant by saying it would feature “real” women was that the ladies would not be professional models. The posting said applicants need not have any scars or tattoos or be too curvy or athletic and must have beautiful arms, legs, hair and faces along with flawless skin. Now Dove claims the ad was not approved.

In spite of less than hospitable market conditions, Tesla Motors (now trading as TSLA) is off to a highly charged start (pun intended) in their first day on the NASDAQ. Opening at $17/share, the stock closed at $23.89 just moments ago. It’s even more impressive considering that the Dow Jones dropped 3% today as investors worry about the recession making a comeback.

Average White Man? China May Have a Job for You

Average White Man? China May Have a Job for You thumbnail

If you’re a white man or woman who has always had a desire to see China, but finding a job teaching English an international company willing to transfer you proves difficult, it turns out there may be another option.

Though it sounds like fodder for Stuff Chinese People Like (inspired by Stuff White People Like, of course), token white person is actually a job some Western expats in China have made into a career.

Leon Verres’ Unfashionable Rant on Anna Wintour thumbnail

Recently some unflattering and downright vicious words from Leon Verres to Anna Wintour have been making rounds in the blogosphere. Verres’ brand, named after himself, created T-shirts that say “F*ck Vogue, F*ck Anna, F*ck You.”

Android 2.2 Froyo Rolls Out to Nexus Ones, Rolls Over Everyone Else

Android 2.2 Froyo Rolls Out to Nexus Ones, Rolls Over Everyone Else thumbnail

Just a week after the launch of iOS 4 for iPhones, Google is letting the final build of Android 2.2 Froyo loose to the masses. By the masses, that of course means the update is coming to those who have the Nexus One phone, and that’s about it for now. The roll-out will happen over the week via Over The Air updates.
