If you’re not a parent of a small child, being an early bird/extreme night owl may not help you catch any deals that are of particular interest for Amazon’s Prime Day blowout. While the floodgates are set to open at 3am EST/12am PST, most of the earliest deals are heavy on the toy, crib and stroller category so those looking for any of the teased TV or tech deals can sleep a little longer.

With such heavy promotion, it’s not clear how long items will stay in stock, so do try to wake up as early as your interest allows. Check back for updates on worthwhile deals throughout the day.

Tech Deals

nikon-coolpix-p600-prime-day

7:50am PST/10:50am EST. This is when some of the teased (and in our humble opinion, most worthwhile) deals drop.

Among the not-too-early morning deals? More than 50% off the Nikon Coolpix P600 16.1MP camera, though it’s not specified if that’s off of the list price or the current Amazon price. Other worthwhile products with deals launching at this time are the Ausdom M05 Bluetooth Wireless Headphones, IMNEED Mini 3200mAh External Battery Charger and the Securifi Almond Long Range Touchscreen Wireless Router/Range Extender. While there are a handful of tech products launching earlier, they’re primarily phone cases, USB cords and other items that you shouldn’t lose sleep over.

Men’s Fashion & Style Deals

baume-mercier-8485-classima-prime-day

7:30am PST/10:50am EST. This Baume & Mercier 8485 Classima watch, currently priced at $1309, is slated for a 7:30am deal start time along with several other watches. Everything before are things you may need (underwear, socks), but nothing you’d want badly enough to justify an earlier wakeup.

Women’s Fashion & Style Deals

dior-womens-black-bezel-watch-prime-day

7:30am PST/10:50am EST. This women’s Dior watch, currently priced at $4895 (list price, $8900) is certainly worth keeping an eye on, as is this silver Baume & Mercier. While there are other nice enough jewelry items that make an earlier appearance, it looks like the deals to get excited about won’t be making an appearance until later in the day.

Food, Drink and Home Deals

Go back to sleep. Nothing earth shattering or early alarm setting to see here before 8am.

Looks Like Amazon’s Earliest Prime Deals are for Parents with Babies, Late Night Eaters http://198.46.88.49/?p=24289 http://198.46.88.49/?p=24289#respond Wed, 15 Jul 2015 04:49:53 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?post_type=clips&p=24289 amazon-prime-day-babies

Amazon’s Prime Day Sale promises Black Friday like deals on a number of products, complete with virtual doorbusters like a 32-inch TV for $75. What’s been teased in an earlier press release is enough to be enticing, but browsing through their Upcoming Deals section there are even more indications of the products that will be part of the sale.

Prime Day deals kick off at 3am EST/12am PST, so in a masterful stroke of marketing, many of the earliest deals are heavy on toys and baby gear. If there’s any group that’s awake and looking for something to do at 3 in the morning, it’s probably parents with small children. Also in the mix? A nighttime weight loss supplement in case you wanted something to help with post baby weight.

If cradles and toys aren’t at the top of your wishlist, view our hour-by-hour list of when to shop Prime Day for the best deals for other interests (spoiler: for most, you can safely sleep in a little longer).

Harper Seven Beckham Makes Her Media Debut on Twitter and Facebook http://198.46.88.49/living/kids/harper-seven-beckham-makes-her-media-debut-on-twitter-and-facebook http://198.46.88.49/living/kids/harper-seven-beckham-makes-her-media-debut-on-twitter-and-facebook#respond Sun, 17 Jul 2011 17:28:48 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=20550 Pre-arrival, rumors were that David and Victoria Beckham‘s first daughter, Harper Seven, would be crawling around in custom red-soled Loubooties, burping up on couture blankets, eating  off of silver spoons and giving Suri Cruise a run for her money as the most extravagant tot in the Hollywood sandbox.

Fortunately, little Harper’s first photos seem to indicate a slightly more relatable childhood start.

Mom tweeted a picture of dad and daughter, and proud papa David Beckham responded on Facebook with a picture of his two girls catching a nap.

Victoria Beckham and daughter, introduced on Facebook

And most surprising is baby Harper looking like a baby! No mink onesies, diamond studded rattles, tiny handbags or baby wigs . Maybe they’re out of range on these shots, but aside from looking like they’ve lucked out with a baby who sleeps – and allows mom to nap – the photos are wonderfully normal. More designers are putting out children’s lines these days, so we could be mistaken, but the blanket and hat Harper wears in her closeup with dad look like (gasp) standard issue baby basics.

We also learned that Harper’s name did not, in fact, come due to some kind of arrangement with Harper’s Bazaar for debut photos, but from Victoria’s admiration for “To Kill a Mockingbird” author Harper Lee. {Daily Mail}

And just in case the favorite jersey number as a name thing weren’t indication enough that David Beckham is pretty excited to have another girl in the house, he laced up a pair of pink and white soccer shoes with all four of his children’s names embroidered on them for his latest game.

David and Victoria Welcome Harper Seven Beckham, Who May Follow In Suri Cruise’s Footsteps http://198.46.88.49/living/kids/david-and-victoria-welcome-harper-seven-beckham-who-may-follow-in-suri-cruises-footsteps http://198.46.88.49/living/kids/david-and-victoria-welcome-harper-seven-beckham-who-may-follow-in-suri-cruises-footsteps#comments Mon, 11 Jul 2011 16:58:24 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=20461

Our family photos don't look like this either

Over the weekend, the fashion designer formerly known as Posh Spice (Victoria Beckham) gave birth to a 7 lb. 10 oz. baby girl named Harper Seven. She joins unusually named siblings Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz, but is Victoria and David Beckham‘s first girl.

There’s no word on where Harper came from – though it seems perfect for selling exclusive baby picture rights to Harper’s Bazaar – but Seven is for David Beckham’s old Manchester United jersey number. Or, the Beckhams are big Erykah Badu fans (she has a son named Seven).

Either way, we’re sure Suri Cruise is going to have some fierce competition for best dressed toddler in a few months. The Daily Mail reported that little Harper has a pair of custom made, red-soled Louboutin baby booties waiting for her and a mini closet  full of designer onesies, but the story has since gone missing (you can still read a hilarious recap at DListed). Which means it’s not certain that Harper Beckham will be next in our awkward stages of girlhood trend watch, but when your pre-arrival photos look like this

it’s pretty much a given that stepping up the glamour is a requirement, even if you can’t actually walk.

This Week In Awkard: Suri Cruise’s Shoes and Grown-Up Gifts For Little Girls http://198.46.88.49/living/kids/this-week-in-awkard-suri-cruises-shoes-and-grown-up-gifts-for-little-girls http://198.46.88.49/living/kids/this-week-in-awkard-suri-cruises-shoes-and-grown-up-gifts-for-little-girls#comments Sun, 12 Jun 2011 18:44:11 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=20225 You know what they say, it’s never too early to be insecure about your appearance. Well, we actually haven’t heard many people say that, but judging by the latest offerings for little girls it seems to be the message. From the UK we have a salon offering spray tans for children as young as one-year-old and a mother who gifted her 7-year-old daughter a voucher for her first boob job; and courtesy of Hollywood royalty, a 5-year-old with a shoe collection that’s worth more than some houses. Feeling awkward yet?

Heels from 5-year-old Suri Cruise's $150,000 shoe collection

We’ll start with Suri Cruise‘s $150,000 shoe collection, because it’s actually the least disturbing of the grown-up gifts trend. Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise obviously have more money than most parents, so it’s probably not too much of a surprise that little Suri has some expensive things. What is a little bit of a surprise is how far the couple goes to satisfy their daughter’s sartorial wishes. It’s not that Tom and Katie stocked up on a walk in closet full of regular kids shoes; Suri’s starting her race to knock Imelda Marcos from her Shoe Queen throne on custom Christian Louboutin and Marc Jacobs shoes. {ABC News} We’re assuming those weren’t cheap.

While we’d normally recommend using a different color for any shoe sole add-ons, this is one situation where we have to say stickers or paint are probably the best way to go for any red soled shoe desires. Especially if the person who really wants the shoes is five and will likely outgrow the shoes in a year.

Further up the awkward meter is the Trendy Monkeys Salon and “Princess Parlour.” The English salon caters strictly to a 13 and under crowd, and offers mani/pedis, fruit smoothie facials and hair styling. All of which seems like it might be fun for little girls who want to have a little princess experience, but don’t have parents who can splash out for bespoke heels. Here’s where it gets a little weird: the salon also offers makeup and spray tan booths, which would seem to push things into that awkward child-pageant territory where you’re not quite sure how to feel about what you’re seeing. The youngest patron so far was 16-months old. {Daily Mail}

We’ve all been in that uncomfortable situation where someone whips out a baby picture and is like “isn’t little ____ so gorgeous?” and you’re like “ummm… awww!” because you don’t want to be the person to point out that the little guy or gal is still growing into their looks. Still, we’re pretty sure slathering a toddler in fake tanner and layers of makeup is not the answer.

7-year-old Poppy Burge, who also pole dances with her mother, with her birthday boob job voucher. Happy birthday?

Finally, in full on awkward gifts for girls, UK mom Sarah Burge gifted her 7-year-old daughter Poppy with a plastic surgery voucher that she can apply to a boob job when she turns 16. {Huffington Post} We were never great with the anniversary gifts, and aren’t sure if there’s something similar for birthdays, but hopefully the voucher for therapy is the appropriate gift for age 8.

The elder Burge has had over 100 aesthetic surgery procedures and calls herself the Human Barbie. If you’re thinking “this won’t end well,” you’re probably right. Closer, the UK magazine that reported this story previously covered the story of a 12-year-old who asked her mother for a boob job for her 13th birthday. The mother in that case had undergone 50 surgeries, and supports her daughter’s plastic surgery aspirations. While she did say she’d want her daughter to wait until her 16th birthday, that was in 2008, so her plastic dreams may have come true. {Daily Mail}

Also, this isn’t Sarah and Poppy Burge’s first time dancing with controversy for publicity. Little Poppy and her mom pole dance together, and Sarah gives her 16-year-old daughter Botox injections. {Daily Mail} Unlike the previous “Botox Mom,” this one seems to be legit.

Youth sure does look a lot different these days.

$400 Designer Stuffed Animals and Luxury Toys: If Everyone Jumped http://198.46.88.49/living/kids/400-designer-stuffed-animals-and-luxury-toys-if-everyone-jumped http://198.46.88.49/living/kids/400-designer-stuffed-animals-and-luxury-toys-if-everyone-jumped#comments Wed, 11 Aug 2010 16:15:30 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=15097

We’ve seen $1400 collectible toys for adults. If you thought the $3,000 price tag on T-shirts that popped up in Valentino’s Rodeo Drive, Los Angeles boutique this summer was ridiculous, get this: following strong second quarter sales, Hermès now offers a children’s coloring book going for $130. {The Cut}

That’s $130 for something a toddler is likely to draw all over in disarray. If a parent handed this pricey art toy to their youngster, the pages would likely be torn out and hung on a refrigerator before inevitably fading and being tossed out. Not to mention that in this economy many shoppers are unwilling to pay that much for clothes, much less temporary entertainment for their kids.

Parents can also score a $600 pull-along wooden horse from Hermès for their little ones. A wooden horse is at least a bigger item with more longevity, but similar ones are available for much lower prices at Toys ‘R Us. In fact, a better-looking, pink and green horse can be purchased for $26.99 at toysrus.com.

Hermès’ collection of pricey kid toys does not stop there, though. The luxury brand also offers a $390 plush horse, a $405 silver-plated music box and a $435 sterling silver rattle. The rattle and music box are nice decorative pieces, but is anyone really going to give their newborn a sterling silver rattle to play with? The weirdest part of all is that children inevitably grow out of their baby toys, so it’s not as if the price tags can be justified with the potential for lifetime use.

Is there something we’re missing here? Let us know in the comments if there’s ever a convincing reason to spend so much money on childrens toys!

Bottoms Up: Designer Diapers are Coming to a Target Near You http://198.46.88.49/living/kids/bottoms-up-designer-diapers-are-coming-to-a-target-near-you http://198.46.88.49/living/kids/bottoms-up-designer-diapers-are-coming-to-a-target-near-you#respond Wed, 30 Jun 2010 22:55:19 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=13570

When Huggies launched their line of denim diapers, complete with catwalking (or should that be kittenwalking?) toddlers, we thought it was the natural progression/regression of the designer collaboration trend.

Pampers and Cynthia Rowley recently announced a collaboration that’s scheduled to hit Target in mid-July of this year. We’ve seen the rise in popularity of pantlessness for adults. It only seems fair that the under 2 crowd – really the only ones who should try the look if not performing in concert, now has a wider array of style options when running around in their undies.

There will be 11 styles in total, so far photos of 2 floral prints and a blue madras have been released.

“As a mom, I wanted other moms and dads to have more options in every part of their lives — even diapers.” It’s the first piece of clothing your baby will ever wear, and it should be special.” – Cynthia Rowley {Luxist}

As long as parents promise to not make this one of those fashion choices that they try to match to their children, it seems like a good idea that’s wide open.

With Stella McCartney expecting her fourth child, and a recent slew of model moms – Giselle Bundchen, Jourdan Dunn, and Adriana Lima to name a few, it would only be surprising if this were the last of the premium diaper collaborations we hear about. McCartney’s already done collections for Gap Kids, so cloth diapers for Baby Gap wouldn’t be impossible.

And if Target decides to bring children’s items into their capsule collections, we’d bet Liberty print diapers would sell out as quickly as any of their other items.

If none of those come to fruition though, there are still plenty of choices for babies (and parents) bored with minimalist white diapers, and too directional to be seen in cartoon character prints.

Denim Diapers? Huggies Gets into the Jeans Market http://198.46.88.49/living/kids/denim-diapers-huggies-gets-into-the-jeans-market http://198.46.88.49/living/kids/denim-diapers-huggies-gets-into-the-jeans-market#respond Fri, 21 May 2010 20:54:02 +0000 http://198.46.88.49/?p=12046

Have you ever looked at your baby’s diaper and thought “if there were only something I could do about that boring white diaper”? Weird question, right?

Not for Huggies. Introducing Huggies Little Movers Jeans Diapers!

Baby in a Denim Diaper

Photo via Jezebel

Yes, this is really a product that had a New York City launch complete with (adorable) models and a runway.

Don’t worry, your baby won’t get diaper rash from all the denim rubbing up against their little bottom. It’s just denim print… so a photocopy of jeans, essentially.

They’re a bit over the top, but honestly, aren’t all new trends a little out there at first? We’re still not sure about the baby high heels favored by New Jersey housewife Teresa Giudice {Heelarious}, but if these do well perhaps it’s an indication that the premium denim market really is coming back.

Really, the biggest shocker is that this wasn’t the natural progression – or regression perhaps, of  the fashion meets everything capsule collections we’ve gotten used to over the years.

But starting at $10.99, we have no doubt it will be just as popular with style savvy moms and dads.

Flipping through pages of fashion magazines, the drama of fashion can become comical- best captured by Right Said Fred in the pop song ‘I’m Too Sexy’. Sometimes it’s good to step away from the ego and play a little. Purple magazine does just this with their we don’t need no education editorial layout. With kids playing dress up in the latest fashions, they play with the camera as Ryan McGinley captures their whimsical character. A lighthearted way to bring some fun back to fashion and give a new context to couture.
